Season 4 - a couple of very oblique in-jokes/references.

George Michael rejects the name "George Michael" because the singer was caught in the men's room having sex with another guy. He also rejects his father's suggestion, "Boy George," who was also caught in the men's room having sex with another guy. GM ends up calling himself "George Maharis," the name of an actor who was twice caught in public men's rooms having sex with other guys - though I don't think AD explains this, which makes the joke all the more brilliant, leaving it for us to discover on our own.

The "George Maharis" name joke has been explained before, BUT did you know that the second time George Maharis was caught was in the men's room of an L.A. gas station what the other guy's name was? Perfecto Telles - same name as Maeby's boyfriend!

In the AD Original Cut episode "It Gets Better," just before the infomercial which explains where George Michael's preternatural ability to keep time on a woodblock came from, is the end of an episode of M*A*S*H* - specifically season 2, episode 22, about a decorated soldier who was beat up by his soldiers from his own outfit when they found out he was gay. The name of the episode? "George"
