No 60 on The Times' Top 100 Films of the Noughties
My girlfriend and I are watching through all the top 100 films of the last decade (from The Times newspaper) and this was at number 60.
First off, its not our list we're just watching through it to check out some films we wouldn't otherwise see and re-watch some classics from the decade. I wouldn't put too much weight on the order they have the films in!
Anyway...
This was an odd film but we both enjoyed it quite a bit. The strong cast partly makes. I didn't realise this was produced by Wes Anderson until after the film but it sits quite well as a more grounded companion to somthing like the Royal Tenenbaums. I actually found the rites-of-passage parts of the story the most entertaining, stuff like Jesse Eisenberg's attempts to get a better looking girlfriend to lost his virginity to and the younger brothers drinking, swearing and, er, smearing.
We are scoring the films as we go along to give our take on the list. If you're interested, you can keep up to date with our progress (and see the The Times' full list) on our blog at:
