I'm trying to remember. I hadn't seen it pointed out, but I think this was the one. Different plot, of course, but a lot like Barcelona, Last Days of Disco, Metroplitans -- people sitting around talking about the same things. Hey, I liked this one, don't get me wrong. But I've gone fuzzy on it.
Kicking and Screaming was sort of similar to Stillman but Mr. Jealousy is a better flim. The Squid and the Whale is Noah Baumbach's best film IMO. Kicking and Screaming didn't hold my interest despite a great cast.
Yeah, I'm just not remembering it right. Maybe it was a different director. I remember noting when i saw this film in question how much it was like Stillman's -- a bunch of people talking to each other, a lot of the same issues, kind of an everyday plot--pleasant and real watchable. And if my memory is of any use at all, it seems like it was done about 2 years before "Disco." If you saw the title, you'd say, oh, sure, that one's a lot like Stillman... No, it's defintiely not Squid and Whale, which I remember now pretty clearly...
I'm a huge Linklater fan, just watched Me and Orson Wells a couple of nights ago, but no, it wasn't him. I'll have to stumble across it again, as when I watched this movie at the time it struck me as an obvious fourth in the trilogy. I remember looking it up on IMDB, and I think it was filmed before the Last Days of Disco, but doggone, I cain't remember! Thanks for taking a shot.
