This was a flop?

It was a great movie. Was it bad timing or was the marketing limited?

I thought this movie was brillant. I will do some more research but it was probably the distribution of the movie and limited promotion. When I orginally saw this movie it was playing at an independent movie theatere that no one went to. With the hype of Inception and series like Ghost Whisper I bet it would be a smash if set in modern war times. I think people thought it was a war movie when people were questioning the war we were in 2005 (are we still in that war?).

So true. This was a brilliant film and so disappointing that it didn't do better than it did.

I live in hopes it will become and underground classic.

The rating here is on the mark, but at the time the film got really bad reviews in the US press, including Ebert. I guess the critics got tired of amnesia films in general and couldn't appreciate Maybury's aesthetic, which is stuck/inspired by earlier periods in cinema (such as the 1970s). For me that's not a bad thing but for some it may seem passé.

It's too complicated for wide spread appeal.

The Title. Just bad.

Sad really, this is such an underrated movie, I would put it on the same level as Jacob's Ladder and The Machinist.
