Green ribbon significance. Coincidence?

Don't know if this has been asked before. If so, just ignore this.
I saw this movie 10 years ago and loved it. Saw it again just now and noticed that when Jack slipped and hit his head, Daniel Craigs Character is looking out the window with a green ribbon twisted around his fingers. In the upcoming flashbacks, the guy who picked up Jack and later shot the cop, is sitting in a bar fiddling with the same color ribbon.

Any ideas of the meaning behind this?

It is supposed to be the same guy.
Its just Jack doesn't recognise him due to the trauma and thinks they are 2 different ppl, he never really focuses on the guy in the flashbacks in the car.
He was escaping from his wife after finding out she was cheating and he made up some BS how he had tried to kill her 30 times, so him and Jack both ended up in the same institute.
