Why is the film an 18? Do we actually see any violence, sex etc ?

My auntie was wondering if she should let her niece watch it, whose 15

There isn't any sexual content and Its not particularly graphic. I would imagine the high-rating is to do with the sensitive subject matter and the final scenes could be distressing considering the reality of it all. It's an interesting movie, but part of me says it should never have been made.

I can sort of see why you might think it should never have been made. Perhaps the more salient statement would (or should) be, it shouldn't have needed making. I think the strength of the film lies in the fact that these were two seemingly ordinary kids. Could have been the proverbial "boy next door", a family member, or a friend. It's something of a "how well do you (think you) know someone", and that's what makes it all the more chilling.

I think it's an important piece of film which should be more widely viewable. An 18 certificate does seem somewhat high, particularly given the age group it focuses on. It's a strong message, and one which people should be able to take on board.

Disturbing material is always going to provoke a reaction along the lines of "it should never have been made".. a part of me thought so too. The problems start when we allow films like this to slip by unnoticed, when they DON'T disturb the hell out of us.

I can honestly say, this is one of the most disturbing films I have seen, which is pretty remarkable given my taste in films. I am a huge horror fan, as well as serious drama. This film made 'Cannibal Holocaust' look tame.. it's the realism I think.. It is remarkably believable, particularly given recent events, and it shows just how easily something like this can happen...

If you dislike the IMDB's new look, please consider signing the following petition..
http://www.petitiononline.com/IMDBKEEP/petition.html. Hopefully, with sufficient signatures, the IMDB staff will, at the very least give us the option of retaining the old look, on a permanent basis.

Thanks, and please help draw attention to the poll, if you believe it to be worthwhile. The more signatures, the more chance we have of keeping our IMDB as it is!" :)

there's nothing in it that would scar you for life, except of course the subject matter. but there is a scene in it that shows how to make pipe bombs which i guess would be one of the main reasons for the rating.

In many international versions, such as the UK version, the pipe bombs assembling had been edited out, yet the movie is still rated 18.
I believe the rating is because of the sensitivity of the matter. Maybe they wanted somehow to protect or not to inspire sensitive/troubled young men of the same age as the main characters to repeat their actions in their own schools (and under the light of the recent events it's not really paranoia).

reply

Because there is some real fottage in it.

No there isn't! :)
