Question about Heavy Metal and Hell.

In the film JB is talking about going to Hell, and he says he hopes not too soon, like he's just assuming he's going to Hell. Along with the Devil theme, I'm just wondering if Heavy Metal types really are seeking to serve the alleged Devil and expect or want to actually go the Hell, like the two rock-fan guys in Little Nicky.

I'm just fascinated that there may be people who actually believe in Hell and are actually willing to go there, and burn forever, in order to "live for the moment", or they think it will be more fun than Heaven, or for some other strange belief (like "real men" goto Hell; Heaven is for sissies).

Anybody seriously willing to go to Hell?

well if you look at many interviews with those sorta bands, it tends to often just be an image thing. especially the bigger acts that have gained worldwide success and appeal. i'm sure there are some who take it seriously but mostly its just an act, a show they put on to entertain.

the best example is probably Alice Cooper. granted he doesnt do heavy metal hell/devil type stuff but he always speaks of Alice Cooper as a seperate persona, he usually speaks of him like he's another person. it isnt the real him but a character he plays.

The idea being that according to most religious nuts, hell will be populated by all the cool people who did "bad" stuff, like sex out of wedlock, drugs and rock and roll!!! Heaven is full of people who listen to christian music, never have sex and think that cannabis is evil, but paracetamol is livin on the edge... Meaning that heaven is like a rainy sunday at grandma's!!!

...Hell is more fun!!! ...if hell wasn't such an amazingly retarded premise postulated by those with no imagination, logic or intelligence of their own!

I'm a Christian and a metalhead. There is nothing wrong with listening to metal and being religious. Most of the "satanic" bands do it for image. Tom Araya from Slayer is a Catholic but he still sings blasphemous lyrics because they "get your attention." Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, and numerous others are Christians or have Christians in the band. King Diamond was a practicing Satanist, now he is agnostic. Personally, I think he's a tool. Deicide claimed to be true Satanists, now they dont. They suck, they take their Satanic crap too far, and I have no use for them. Do I think Jesus would have a problem with metal? Nah, I think he understands what is real and what isn't. I do not beleve metal is a sin, but Justin Beiber sure is!

King Diamond is cool, though.

OK, I have to ask, how can you be a Christian, and have a 6-6-6 in your screen name?

There's no place for truth on the internet!

reply

That because hes only christian in name. He does not follow the holy word of christ.

You realise that hell is not real right? No boogeyman is going to torture you forever because you had the audacity to sing a rude word?

reply

Who is your question directed at?

I'm just asking what do other people believe about the proverbial Devil and proverbial Hell.

The majority of the time, when they are talking about hell/satan they are not actually endorsing it. It's a theme, not a promotion for those things.

E.g. Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast is all about the devil, but the lyrics are not pro-devil, rather they are about a dude who is hypnotised by a pack of devil worshippers.
