Remake of a Todd Solondz film?

Clowes clearly knows Solondz work. I mean, he even did the poster for Happiness. So, I just got a copy of Solondz unreleased, "Fear, Anxiety and Depression" and it's pretty much the EXACT same film as "Art School Confidential" anyone have any idea how this came to be? Has Clowes commented on it?

Well, I saw both movies recently and it didn't really occur to me. It's similiar only because it's about young struggling artist with no talent. The story is very different I think.
