This is a BS movie. In the same category as "Brown Bunny". I tried to watch it twice and every time I managed to fall asleep. It's bad. So bad.

Its a niche movie, there were a lot of things you wouldn't get unless you had a lot of exposure to the art world. I thought it was a great parody on the NYC art school culture, so I got it on a different level.

I grew up in NYC and had a lot of friends in art school, and worked in a couple part time. So for me it was a great parody, I enjoyed it but I knew most people wouldn't get most of it. In the meantime Sophie Myles naked was cool too.

It had graphic male genitalia so of course it would be praised highly even though it sucked. that is the gay mafias trend if you have not noticed. Every movie that had a penis in it will get great praise, its sad and shows how worthless entertainment has become.

I agree that the movie sucks. I loved Ghost World, and the scenes of Enid in art class and I get the pretentious nature of art school. But the characters were boring and annoying, especially his greasy haired friend...I think he starred in that Paris Hilton movie where she's a hottie and the other girl's a nottie. Anyway, the movie became very pretentious and slow, and I think it would have been much better if Terry Zwigoff had co-wrote it with Clowes, since their collaboration worked really well in Ghost World.
Even Jim Broadbent sucked in the movie. Lame.

I've been part of the NYC art world for many years and am also a great fan of Daniel Clowes' "Art School Confidential" comic. Based on everything I know, I say this film missed the mark in a BIG way.

I found it to be a reasonably funny movie to be classed under "comedy" and I kinda get the point of the plot.I also quite like a few of the cast members like John Malkovich , Steve Buscemi and Jim Broadbent(which actually surprised me and I thought the cast was a terrible waste on such a stereotypical plot). To me it seems that these actors weren't at all suited for these roles(watch Being John Malkovich, The Interview and Iris to know what I mean).Sophia Miles was the eye candy I suppose and she I am sure has attracted a lot of viewers and why wouldnt she...she's gorgeous.If I am being very honest......I didnt really find anything exceptional in this movie.Think about it.....it is packed with stereotypical humour and not much originality . Perhaps its just me .I'd give it a 5.5 on it's 'quality' , but a 6.5/7 on it's entertainment value.
My opinion of this movie really isnt biased . I'm a microbiologist and not an artist or art student . I hate the odd pretentious bearded art school 'know it alls' just as much as the next person :)
i fell asleep to 2001 a space odyssey like 6 times before i finally watched it the whole way through and until i finally watched the whole thing
