I remember hearing a while back that this movie was originally a sequel of sorts to the movie Heavyweights. Any truth to that?

Most likely because of the similarity of Ben Stiller's character in the two films. They have no relation.

I know there is no relation between the movies now, but I had heard early in the writing that it was planned to be a sequel.

I don't remember ever hearing it was a sequel and only saw Heavyweights once, but Still is essentially the same character.
