Another interviewee speaks up

I don't know where the "done at the expense of the fans for comic value" thing came from, but I can tell you honestly, it didn't happen here. Now if they made me look 50 pounds heavier on national TV, THEN I'd be a little peeved.

I've been hearing pessimistic reviews from friends as early as six months before the interview in July. I honestly don't know what their fears were, but I have put them all to rest - hopefully. Right now, what I'd like to know is, when they're showing it, where, and what time. I need particulars, so I can tell people what to look for.

We are another set of interviewees for Trekkies2. We were also interviewed in July at the con in Baltimore. We could only be there on Friday night and Saturday. We moved the next day. lol

As to why we agreed...well, we were told that the producers and director wanted to make a more serious documentary about Trek fans. We had a great time at the con...our first...and with over 900 hours of film, I doubt we will make it into the finished product, but we enjoyed the experience.

It was fun just being interviewed (I was at Shore Leave, the Baltimore Con they came to). Not to mention, it was enjoyable just talking about normal everyday things with Denise Crosby (she is a wonderful person to meet). :)

I thought it was well done, and think that it will show the serious side of fandom of those of us who like all things Trek.

What do you mean, you don't know where this "done at the expense of the fans for comic value" thing came up?? Did you watch the original trekkies?? The entire film was mocking fandom. Ohh, look at how much time and money these losers spend on a television show that was canned thirty years ago! har-har! My fans write me letters! What idiots! Haha!

Never mind the fact that you could just as easily make a mean spirited documentary on sports fans. They waste all kinds of time and money on garbage that they don't need and will never matter in any sense. But, oh no! It's okay for a guy to wear a block of cheese on his head and stand nearly naked in freezing weather at a football game, but it's insane for a person to dress as their favorite character from a television show at a convention in which it's encouraged!

I did watch the original Trekkies, and I don't think it's the filmmakers who look idiotic. As I've been saying for almost a year, I managed to make myself look kinda stupid. I commented that I outranked a teddy bear, for God's sake. (Sure, the bear was in uniform, and I happened to have my rank pips on, but still.)

And yes, I do have a life outside of Star Trek...

Hey Gabe... Glad to see the mullet's gone. I just saw "Trekkies" for the first time the other night and wanted to strangle you and smack your dad for indulging you to the extent that he did. However... after finding your site, seeing what you're up to now and realizing that "Hey, I was a bit like that at 14 as well"... well... I don't want to strangle you anymore. So... well done.

hey man, i was really impressed with your work. i thought the film was great. fan culture is interesting, and heavy duty fans are characters. i loved hearing what you had to say. i dig trek, amd, and i appreciate folks who dig on it. why not participate?

I am a little nervous, although I don't think I said anything really silly, I am getting could feet and crawlers on my stomach, now that it is about to show in the Big Screen in São Paulo...
Thinking if I should really invite my friends to watch it with me, or should I just let it quietly slide, watch it in private, then show friends and family just MY edit of it???

Has anyone watched it already? Do I look good in the picture???
Who am I, well, I was dressed as a Klingoness at the Brasilian convention, and I was also interviewed in my house...

I just saw this last night. You came off very well, and they included the part of the interview (subtitled) where you explain how working with the public in a bank requires the strength of a Klingon to keep from strangling them! Great costume, good line, and I think you will be happy and proud of the results. I think you also appear on one of the fan montages where you say, "Deep down, I think I am a Klingon." Nothing to be embarassed about. You looked great. I don't think footage from your interview at home was used.

Hi there, I'm the depraved old woman from Australia who took a fancy to Connor Trinneer. The girls and I meet at my place every Wednesday and watch our Heavenly Bodies until it's time to pick up the kids from school. We've been doing this for almost 3 years and are so proud to be a piece of the Legend. T2 will be released in Australia on February 10, but we've had a copy for months, we had a party and cracked a bottle of champagne. When they arranged for Connor to make us an MP3 message, it just blew us away. We feel so special.

I laughed at the original Trekkies, not because I come anywhere near as extreme as those people, but because I have the ability to laugh at myself because there are some moments when my interest in it can briefly touch those levels.

Still...the original Trekkies film was an expliotation piece. It was designed to poke fun at the extreme fan, and no matter what those who contributed to it say, it completely and totally reinforced the "Trekkie" stereotype to the general public who laughed at this film in a not-so-nice way. We, as fans, have to understand that this movie was not *really* marketed to us. This movie ended up at the very least annoying most big fans of Trek.

Trekkies 2 may have brought that aspect down a bit, but that's not what made the first film so popular. It's a laugh-at-the-freaks-fest that made the first film so popular and successful.

I always thought it was a little strange that they went overseas for Trekkies 2. I didn't think that was because they simply wanted to show an 'international' fanbase.

It's kind of amusing seeing some of the people like Koerner go on this forun and elsewhere trying to defend both of the films as an honest portrayal of fandom that was completely innocent and done with the best of intentions.

Denise Crosby? That woman has been doing anything that she can concievably do to squeeze herself back into Star Trek. Her involvement in the Trekkies films basically proved that she's willing to bring herself down to the absolute lowest level for a $.

Agreed about Crosby. She blew it leaving TNG and has been scratching and clawing to get back into ST any way she can.
"My character wasn't big enough. Boo Hoo." It's Star Trek. It's an ensemble. What did you think it was the Tasha Yar Chronicles?
