Star Wars. Go the Warsies (or Warsers).
shareI love both. However, as I get older I watch and appreciate Star Trek much more. There are several reasons for this...
- There is a greater depth of material (films, series, etc) to pull from with Star Trek, each with its own style and unique character.
- Star Trek is actually SCIENCE fiction, whereas Star Wars is just action / adventure stories set in space.
- Both are entertaining, but Star Trek is much more of an intellectually satisfying experience that deals with various aspects of the human condition through the lens of science fiction. In contrast, the world of Star Wars is just escapist entertainment that is far too simplistic in its portrayal of good and evil.
Don't get me wrong, I grew up with and love Star Wars. It is great entertainment, but unfortunately not much deeper than that.
As the guy said in Trekkies 2, "that's what I like about Star Wars. You don't have to think about it. It's just good." Personally, as an adult, I need more than that.

Despite the fact that they both take place in space, involve futuristic technology and alien cultures, the two franchises are actually very different. One is in the future, the other the past. One paints an optimistic view of the future which is borne from the near obliteration of the human race, the other charts the downfall of a great galactic peace which crumbles into chaos, corruption and war. One is primarily told through television, the other primarily in films. Both haven't necessarily improved with time, but there's so much more Trek that my vote has to be there, and that is in large part due to poor quality control in the latest Star Wars films. The final Star Wars film (Episode 3) was a much greater last effort than the most recent Trek series, however. Star Trek is going to have a very promising future with JJ Abrams at the 'pad', but I am curious to see what new TV series spin out of Lucas's senile mind. VOTE: TREK.

I always felt that Star Wars movies were good old fashioned action movies and very entertaining. Star Trek to me was a hopeful philosophy for the human race. I would love to be able to live in the Star Trek world.
shareI'm with DarthObama. Star wars has lost my respect since Lucas lost his mind and I've never been into Star trek, although I did like the movie. LIS is my only childhood sci-fi memory that hasn't changed, or been tarnished.
