I call BS!

I have never seen a show as obviously rigged as this one. OMFG! WTF!?! It's so obvious this show is rigged, it's not even funny. Either this show is rigged or the judges of this show are completely incompetent. Here are some points on why I say this:

#01: The eliminations don't correspond to the judges' deliberations AT ALL. For example, let's say there are two models on the bottom during the elimination process. Let's call them "Model A" and "Model B". During the judges' deliberation they will mention MORE positive stuff about Model A than they will about Model B. And yet after the deliberation Model A is the one who gets eliminated. How does that work??? Also, if you take a good look, most of the time during an elimination it's usually Tyra's own personal favorite that goes through, regardless of their performance. And certain models will get through for the dumbest reasons. For example all of the other judges might say that Model B is out, or they might say more negative things about Model B than about Model A, but then surprise surprise Model B gets through just because Tyra likes their voice or their eyes or their backstory. This is just completely ridiculous. Also, in many cases a model that clearly has a better OVERALL performance than another one will get eliminated while the one with the weaker OVERALL performance is put through. In other words the eliminations in this show make no damn sense at all! It also seems like Tyra's vote counts for more than the other judges votes, and that the guest judge's vote isn't even taken into account.

#02: Many many many times you can clearly see the judges playing favorites regardless of a model's performance.

#03: At the very least about 40% of the time the judges make MASSIVE mistakes in their decisions on who gets eliminated, as well as who becomes the next top model. Now, I know that the judges aren't perfect, and I realize there will be some mistakes here and there, but a 40% (or more) error rate is pretty damn big. With such a high error rate it's clear the show is either rigged or the judges are some of the most incompetent people in the world.

I really hope they fix this crap with the VH1 reboot of the show. Because this is just utterly ridiculous.

I completely agree with you. Twiggy left the show because she said in an interview that Tyra would disagree with the judges and put her favorite model as the winner. For example, in cycle 7, every judge wanted Melrose to win except Tyra who wanted CariDee. Nigel wanted Caridee to leave the show when she insulted him in that one episode when they posed with the bull. Watch the episode again and notice Nigel's expression when she was put through the next round. Also, none of the judges even liked CariDee's picture except Tyra hmmm. Then, in cycle 9 Salesiha was picked as he winner and the judges said that Chantel was the far better model that would be more marketable. Tyra only wanted Salesiha to win because she went to her modeling camp. Salesiha in my opinion was very plain looking and Chantel was very high fashion looking. Chantel thankfully became very successful and all Salesiha did was appear in catalogs. I call it bluff too that's why I stopped watching this show; I stopped watching the show after cycle 15....

Yeah, I have had so many WTF moments in this show I've lost count. And I agree with you, it was complete BS for CariDee to win cycle 7. Melrose was clearly the better OVERALL model. I'm also not 100% convinced that CariDee stepping on Melrose's dress was an accident. I was so hoping they would bring up the whole dress stepping incident during the judges deliberations, but then nobody said anything about it at all. I mean come on!

It's not just cycle 7 though. Lots of times in this show I actually yell out loud WTF?!? because of how confusing the judging process is. Over half the eliminations and/or winners make NO DAMN SENSE AT ALL! Even the contestants themselves were confused at some of the eliminations during cycle 6 and 7. I also remember hearing something about the reason Janice left the show is because she claimed that she had done so because of the show being rigged. (However, cycle 7 was REALLY bad in this regard. Melrose got totally screwed out of the win. That was a rig job if I ever saw one.)

I also think it's BS how models with bad attitudes are given chance after chance after chance. I mean, there are models who are decent human beings and then get one bad photo and then they are eliminated for that, but models who act like complete "female dogs" are put through over and over again. In my honest opinion the ones who act like complete "female dogs" should be eliminated immediately. Make an example of them so that future contestants can see that type of behavior is not acceptable. I like how they are quick to quote: "This is not America's Next Top Best Friend." Yeah, well you know what, it's not America's Next Top Douche-Bag either. Just because it's a competition does not mean you can't be a decent human being towards others.

I really hope this BS does not make it into the VH1 remake of the show.

reply

Yes totally. It always seemed like the mean girls made it to the next round and the nice girls were eliminated..... :(

reply

HOLY CRAP!!! This show's judging panel is inconsistent as all hell. Between cycles 1 to 8 there have been models that did not complete the go-see challenge, and the judges never eliminated any of them for that. Then comes cycle 9, and the judges decide to eliminate Heather for not completing the go-see challenge. WTF?!? Talk about selective rules. OMFG! This show's judging panel is so full of epic fail... I just... there are no words. Really. I'm speechless. Hell, Bianca flat out refused to complete the previous week's challenge and yet she was not eliminated for that. I swear the judges just make up the rules as they go. It's so ridiculous. Another prime example is Jay had no problem reading the models lines to them for the commercial challenge in cycles 7 and 8, but in cycle 9 they make a big deal out of having to do it for Heather. The show's rules seem to flop around all over the place from cycle to cycle. I really hope the revived version of the show isn't going to be so messed up. Hopefully with the new version of the show they establish a set of rules from the very beginning and stick to those rules no matter what.

Seriously, this show should be awarded the Guinness World Record for most WTF moments.

reply

That was ridiculous with Heather and she even had a disability. So if anyone should have their lines read it should be her. And the other girls still messed up having them read so they can't blame it on that. However, I can see making it only to one go see being a problem but that again has happened to other girls. What about Fatima missing a shoot and passing through? She passed through because she was good (not my fave but she was decent) and they liked her.

Daniels gap was a HUGE issue then they make Chelsea widen her gap.

reply

Who do you think is the worst winner? For me, Salesiha tops the list and the girl from cycle 12 was pretty bad too and of course Caridee because she had such a bad attitude. Your picks?

reply

Didn't Caridee end up trashing the show? Serves Tyra right.

reply

Melrose, Caridee and Eugena all started in interviews that the thing with Nigel was massively blown out of proportion for the show and everyone laughed it off when it happened...

reply

I guess that I'm in the minority because once cycle 7 went overseas I knew that Caridee was going to win. I heard that Cover Girl has a hand in picking the winner too. I think that Caridee deserved her win. I don't know if Tyra always gets who she wants. I will never believe that she wanted Danielle to win over Joanie. Cover Girl, at the time, had their Queen Collection for women of color and Danielle appeared in the commercial for it. Caridee and Danielle were the only models that Cover Girl continued their contracts after their contact was up.q

reply

I don't think CariDee deserved her win for a couple of reasons.

1.) She insulted Nigel on the set of one of the photoshoots. In the modeling industry, if you insult one of the photographers, you will be immediately kicked out of the photoshoot, runaway show etc. Models have to be kind and marketable and CariDee stepped way over the line.

2.) She always bashed Melrose. Why? Because it was obvious she thought Melrose was a threat to her. Melrose had better pictures, a knowledge for the fashion industry and was very professional and driven.

3.) Her pictures weren't that great. In an interview with Twiggy on E! network, CariDee was used as one of the examples (as to why Twiggy left the show) said that the judges wanted CariDee eliminated a long time ago and Tyra was the one that kept her on the show claiming that it was her show and therefore her decision. And Finally,

4.) During the final runway walk, CariDee stepped on Melrose's dress and ripped it. When Melrose was naturally unhappy about it, CariDee mocked her and seemed super annoyed with her but yet she still won the competition?!?! Ridiculous!!!!

On a side note, CariDee and Danielle weren't not the only ones that continued their contracts with Cover Girl. Both Nicoles (from cycle 5 and from cycle 13) both continued their contracts with them.

reply

She always bashed Melrose. Why?

Maybe because Melrose was a snotty, nasty little twat? I wanted her gone from week one. She was soul deadening to watch on tv, and I can't imagine having to live with her. All the girls hated her for a reason. She was just plain unlikable. I was rooting for anyone but her.

I'm not really buying into this "all the judges wanted Melrose over Caridee" thing 100%. I seem to remember Nigel saying that she irked him, or he didn't like her and that she was fake. Which she was.

reply

I agree about Melrose. She was up there with Renee.

reply

IMO, the only thing that Melrose had over Caridee was the runway walk. There have been several people that lost to people that had worse runway walks. Mame had a better runway walk than Nyles. They both had great pictures, but the final runway show Mame was better. As for Caridee bashing Melrose. She wasn't the only one. Anchal said, in an interview, that she didn't like her. Eugena said that Melrose was fake. I am sticking to my opinion. I knew that she would win once they went abroad.

reply

One more thing. I heard, in cycle 3, that Tyra wanted Toccara to win, Ford wanted Ann, Janice wanted Amanda, and Cover Girl wanted Eva. Janice said that Cover Girl picked the winners. That's why she said that she left because whoever she wanted to win didn't. At the time, I only read that Danielle and Caridee were the only ones that stayed after their contract was up. I never heard that about cycle 5 Nicole. I don't know what Paulina's take on the winners was. She didn't seem that cool about Whitney winning. Since you seem to know how the judges felt about contestants, what was said about Saliesha winning? I only got to episode 4 of that cycle, but I kept up with the photo shoots and I thought that Jenah should have won.

reply

The judging panel is completely screwed up. In several cases a model who clearly has a better body of work than another one is eliminated. Examples include (but are not limited to):

-Cycle 7's CariDee vs Melrose. Nobody can argue against the fact that Melrose clearly had the better body of work (also known as overall performance), and yet the win went to CariDee. Plus, CariDee's attitude toward one of the judges (Nigel) should have gotten her disqualified right then and there. Also, the incident with her stepping on MelRose's dress was very suspect. What is even more mind-boggling is the dress stepping incident was not brought up during panel.

-Cycle 15's Chelsey vs Kayla vs Jane. HOLY CRAP! The judges REALLY screwed the pooch on this one. Of the three of them Kayla CLEARLY had the better body of work, and yet she is eliminated while Chelsey was put through. THIS MAKES NO DAMN SENSE AT ALL!! Chelsey even had prior modeling experience, and even with that she could barely keep up with Kayla. Kayla was screwed out of the competition. Plain and simple. This show is rigged.

-Cycle 9's Heather. She is the only one to ever have been eliminated for doing badly on the go-see challenge. (Tyra even specifically stated right there on the show that Heather was eliminated specifically for failing the go-see challenge.) Before cycle 9, and even after cycle 9, many of the girls failed the go-see challenge and was never eliminated for it. This sure looks mighty suspicious, seeing that Heather was the only girl to ever have been eliminated for this. Mighty suspicious indeed...

-Cycle 5's Kyle. Kyle's elimination was very suspect to say the least...

Also, many times during the finale, the judges clearly give more praise to "model A", but then suddenly out of nowhere the win goes to "model B". The show's judging panel is a confusing mess of hot garbage. Over 90% of the time I am so confused by the eliminations and/or winners of this show.

I don't know how many of you watch a show called "Face Off". But if you want to see what a PROPER judging panel is then go watch that show. On that show the judges decisions make sense, and you never get a feeling of the show possibly being rigged. On that show everything makes sense. On America's Next Top Model the judges' deliberations contradict the elimination/winner choices.

reply

Yup, I completely agree with everything you said about cycle 7; In my opinion I think the final two contestants for cycle 7 should have been MelRose and Eugena. Caridee should been eliminated on the set when she insulted Nigel and not continue with the photoshoot; I was shocked when she wasn't even in the bottom two during the judging panel; I was like WTF!!!' And I'm not trying to be mean but she doesn't even look like a model.

reply

Did you read what she wrote about Janice? The client chooses the winner. They aren't going to give a contract to someone Tyra picks. Unless that person is worthy. The clients arent that naive. They know what they are doing with their own product or business. That is why the judging seems whack. Because in reality they have no say.

Edit: I love the Face but they copied ANTM and made it better. It's easy to improve on someone else's idea. Groundbreaking is aways more difficut.

Edit again: My bad. She said Face Off not the Face.

reply

They said Face Off which is another show entirely from The Face, and not (really) based on modelling. It is a competition show where creature designers (makeup, costumes etc etc) compete each week with their new creations (which they do create on models lol).

I Really enjoy this show as well, it is a cool one. And as they stated, the judging, you can tell, is clear, fair, and most importantly almost all info stated on television for us to hear about why or why not the contestants didnt pull things off.
I think that is the key...giving the viewer as much of the information as possible, not 10% of it like Top model. I am sure Top model doesnt do that because they would Not be able to back a good majority of the "facts" they gave.

Also I really believe, since usually a weiner ;) Is chosen beforehand, that a good majority of the disqualifying factors for girls are excuses.
They have to come up with Something because ultimately all will be sent home but one. And I will say, Tyra actually is pretty decent at coming up with some good excuses, even if they are not always true.

reply

Face Off
Oh duh. I should've caught that. A guy at my theatre competed on Face Off.

reply

Heather's elimination wasn't that shocking because she had started to lose it mentally. And her case with the go sees isn't that odd either because she may never be able to improve how she presents herself due to her issues. They can't give her preferential treatment just because she has Aspergers. I think she lasted far too long as it was.

reply

She did? Don't they all lose it a little? I didn't notice her losing any more than Jenah or Jade or Lisa etc. Bianca was a nut job from day one.

reply

I'm sorry but there was nothing suspect about the dress stepping. Very very obviously unintentional, Caridee was turned away when it happened and not even looking down. I thought Melrose should have taken it, but there's no need to invent incident where there isn't any. And Melrose looked like an imbecile whining about it backstage. Did she have to pay for the damage or something?

reply

Your entire premise is the body of work matters - which even Tyra admits that it doesn't. In season 4, Tyra flat out said she has a problem deciding between Kaylen that studied hard all semester and failed the finals and Naima which was just okay most semester but aced the finals. She chose the later.

So her picks IS consistent.

As for Caridee vs Melrose, isn't it obvious here? At judging they said that Melrose was better on the runway but Caridee was better in the covergirl ad. Since Covergirl give the reward, they are the ones who make the pick.

reply

Paulina totally trashed Tyra in interviews later on. She said that Tyra fired her on her birthday and if she wanted to save money, maybe she wouldn't be late for so long.

She mentioned voting for Allison but said she doesn't think she has much of a shot in the modeling industry - none of the girls do. And she totally rolled her eyes on the short cycle that was announced.

reply

The main thing that bothers me is that Tyra seems to judge favorably towards girls that have a story. Being homeless, an orphan, growing up poor, etc. shouldn't come into play during judging.

reply

That's because it's a reality show not a modeling competition. This has been from the very beginning. Look at cycle 1. Adrianne was my pick from the first episode, but if this were a real modeling competition Shannon or Elyse would have won. Adrianne was a Cinderella story because of her background. Was never a fan of Angelea, but if she gets any money, from Tyra, I say good for her! That's what Tyra gets for picking stories over talent. Not saying that Angelea wasn't a good model, but IMO she didn't deserve to win or even make it as far as she did.

reply

I have only agreed with 3 winners on ANTM: Eva, Nicole L., Danielle, and Nicole F. I still to this day can't figure out how Whitney won over Anya. Anya was consistently good, and was never in the bottom! Whitney was only consistent at being in the bottom almost every week. I still shake my head at that one.

Also, I agree with everyone about Saleisha. WTF. She was very pretty, but not a high fashion model. Jenah and Lisa were the final two/winners to me. Same goes for Teyona vs. Allison. Major disappointment.

Unpopular opinion: I never liked McKey. She reminds me of The Joker. I feel mean for saying that, but it's how I feel when I look at her. :(

reply

I bet Tyra wanted to fulfill the quota for a "plus sized" model to win a season. Especially since we all know how gung ho she was about finding those niches that the fashion industry descriminated against, and giving them "a (fat) chance...the short cycle etc. It made me sad though because there were before, and after Whitney quite a few good full figured models that deserved that fledgling title Far more than Whitney. Whitney is fake as hell, and I cant stand even looking at her speak. Even she probably knew Why she won.

reply

True if they weren't going to give it to Toccara, Alexandra should have gotten it. Even Kasia was better than Whitney.

reply

I don't think that you have an unpopular opinion. When I saw the 1st photo shoot, of cycle 11, there was something about McKey that screamed winner and I knew that she was going to win. I think that I am one of the few people that thought that McKey should have won.

reply

I think you all need to remember that this is a REALITY TV SHOW where things are filmed in entirety and edited to make things appear one way or another. Settle down.

reply

[deleted]

False. Nobody is discussing the way it is presented. They are making assumptions and generalizations over a reality TV show as if that defines who the judges and models are as people. What makes you think I need to get over myself? That I'm not getting all bent out of shape over reality TV?

reply

No, you need to get over yourself because you're complaining about people discussing a show on that shows discussion board. If that leaves you so greatly uninterested or enraged why post here?

reply

I'm simply pointing out that the majority of the things people seem to be "discussing" are simply the way that the show was edited. That is how the editors decided to portray the characters. People hate Melrose for example. I'm sure there was plenty of footage of her being who she actually is, but they decide to portray her bitchy moments. I mean it's fine if that's how you all want to live your lives, pining over the made-up personalities on a reality modeling show. But I just thought I'd point out the simple fact that nobody else seems to be mentioning.

reply

Yet you are OK with Mikeys bad edit?

reply
