This season has been a complete example of mediocrity

The judges and their critiques (barring Ashley) - mediocre.

The photoshoot concepts - mediocre and uninspired.

The prizes - mediocre.

But above all else, the models themselves are probably the most mediocre thing about this season. None of them are memorable or particularly good. With a few exceptions, they all seem to blend in to each other. None have amazed me nor blown me away with their photos. Sure, some of them take better photos than the rest (India and Paige), but that's not exactly hard when the bar has been set so low. There are contestants from past cycles who could and would model circles around these girls.

Really, i feel completely the opposite. One of the better cycles in quite a while. The shoots are pretty clever, and they've had impressive photographers.

I also think this is a really strong group of girls overall.

reply

you really think this group of girls, particularly at this stage of the competition, are on the levels of some of the previous cycles, like cycles 4, 5, 6, or 15?

reply

This cycle has a huge huge improvement from Kelly Cutrone era, but I agree that it is still incomparable to the earlier cycles.

I think the new judges may be inexperience in their first cycle. I hope they are able to give more constructive criticism in next cycle.

The only judge I don't understand is Rita. I think Ashley, Drew, and Law are all pretty big players in the fashion industry. Besides the music videos, I think the photo shoots have been a big improvement from the last couple cycles. The prizes are sort of mediocre. I think the Rimmel & Paper magazine spread are good, but there isn't even a prize to get signed to an agency. I feel like the VH1 talent deal is just going to have whoever wins pop up on various other VH1 reality shows, not really a good modeling competition prize.

I disagree about the models. I think they all have a very modelesque look, more so than past cycles. There are several cycles of top model where almost none of the girls/guys looked like real models. This cycle the whole group looks like they could actually go to a casting or agency and get booked.

reply

I agree. The prize package is a let down. I wish that they could've gotten V magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, W magazine, or Numero instead.

reply

I just finished the first episode. These group of girls actually look like they could get signed to an agency on their own. I think overall, even though I do agree that they do kind of blend in together, they all look very modelesque as opposed to a lot of previous seasons where it didn't seem like a lot of them had any chance.

reply

Most of them are working models already. It's not amateur anymore.

reply

Yeesh, the fact that most of them are working models kind of makes it even worse, doesn't it? Like they should all know better by now...

I could not agree more with you. I had such high hopes for this season. They had an opportunity to really restart this franchise and inject it with some energy, but they definitely dropped the ball, IMO. The whole 'boss, brand' thing is so insufferable. Every time one of the girls or Rita says it I want to just smack them.

Rita Ora seems bored out of her mind. Whether they are at panel or she is doing one of her Ritalerts, her expression and vocal inflection betray her. She would rather be anywhere than ANTM.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the judges, tbh. Even Ashley, while I totally love her look and what she stands for, doesn't give great critiques. She seems to have improved slightly over the past couple weeks, but really, that's not saying much.

The 'photoshoots' are freaking lame. Truly terrible concepts. And the music videos they do need to just die.

Your comment on the girls is spot on. I like India and Paige, but that's really about it. Most of the other girls have been completely obnoxious.

reply

I'm agreeing w/Anyname.

These girl look old and tired, including Paige. India looks okay, but she's no way a model. The ones who do not look old and tired, don't look like models.

Don't get me started on Rita as a host, really?

Re: the prize

Does it really matter, since this crop of girls are up to par for anything better?
