Fire?

I just watched this and I must say it wasn't the best movie.

But that doesn't matter.

My question is, what is the significance of all the fire references?

David smokes, he was burned as a child, Sarah's dad tells him to "burn in hell", when he wakes up in the hotel room there is a cartoon about fire on, Steve Zahn's character is on the phone in one scene and someone runs by who is on fire...

these are just a few off the top of my head

Is is just a coincidense or is there deeper meaning?

I suppose you could argue that it's a metaphor for David because he "started the fire" that was the whole movie basically... but is there more to it than that?

I think you are looking too far into this, or the director has a fetish. one of the two.

I dont have a drinking problem I have a YOU problem.

i agree in that you are probably thinking too hard about it. i mean i don't think that it has any bearing on the movie, maybe the director put it in there for a reason, maybe the director didn't realize that he was putting a message into the movie, and maybe the director is just f@cking with people like you who read into every possible symbol you see. i have no idea if any/all/none of those are true, but they are all possibilities and we may never know for sure what the meaning is.

do you or anybody know of anywhere i could find the music/song from the end credits?

we can't stop here, this is bat country.

Do you think it's possible that the references to "fire" have something to do with the tagline - "Congratulations! You're Fired!" ?

reply

Maybe it has something to do with the saying "playing with fire" since they all end up in a hiest on the bank..they were all taking a big gamble on greed with one another..and it ends up that way what with everyone dying and all.

I never really thought about all the fire references until i was reading this. I think that it kind of signifies the spread of fire. Fire spreads and damages all it touches, so all the deceit and lies that the characters had was their fire, and it spread and damaged (killed) them all.

And then at the end when David says 'You burnt me so now I've burnt you'... they all 'burn' each other?

By the way, in Germany they changed the original title of the film into an also English name "You're fired!" which is sowehow more appealing and more suitable. Don't you agree?
