Help me out here

When does this movie take place?

Early in the movie, when David turns off his alarm clock, it looks as if the date is 12-31, but then later he says the heat of summer is not something he enjoys. This only bothers me slightly, and I'm not sure I even know it's the date on the clock.

However, this one is sort of a larger problem for me:

Jack's phone at the scene of the accident is huge. Like, retarded huge. They don't make home phones that big anymore. Like, early nineties-ish.

The stripper says her mom stabbed her dad when she was young (I think she says a real young age), in 1982, and that he eventually died died when she was 16. Which would, at 18, put it early nineties-ish.

Wendy's phone is not huge. In fact, if someone had that phone prior to 1999, I would be really surprised.

So, wtf? Early nineties? The stripper doesn't know what she's talking about and Jack has a huge phone for some reason? Error?

I don't know, but it all poses a bigger question:

If it IS a period movie, why? Does that have anything to do with the plot?

Well - can't really help you out here.

I only seen this movie once and didn't even know it existed. - I thought it was the Dane Cook movie when I turned to it.

But I missed the clock that said 12/31.

And for the most part I thought it took place in the 2000's, being that's when the movie was made.

The thing I got out of Jack's phone was that it was comedy. They only did that to make you laugh and/or say "He still has a phone like that?"

Jack was the type of crazy man that would still have a phone like that.
