the films that rightfully destroyed richard kelly's career

southland tales might have been only mildly amusing to watch, but as an artwork it is absolutely fascinating. with this one my initial thought was "i don't think that this is a good idea", when it was announced. little did i know how abysmal it would turn out. i understand that the studio even worsened the whole ordeal, but there is no way to justify the third act.

I listened to the director commentary and Kelly actually explains it so well that the movie makes perfect sense.

where can I see that?

Rent the blu-ray. The commentary was very enjoyable.

I might be able to. Hoped it was on YT but I cannot find it. :D I wasn't too happy with this movie in general. Esp the weird effects. They seemed a little out of place, but of course, I am still unclear about the intent of the burn victim and whether he was a spiritual character or an alien.

Puzzling. Not too fond of the acting either.

I liked it and even liked it more after listening to the commentary. I really think that Kelly is a talented guy who likes making movies that are wrapped in supernatural mystery. Too bad the audience couldn't warm up to the guy and see what he was trying to do. Kelly is an artist and most artists aren't appreciated until after they die.

Im still confused about some of the film aspects, namely the water pillar. I do not understand what purpose it served, and seemed strange to end up over the bed.
