Has anyone here actually had a ghostly experience?

If you have, I'd love to hear them.

Not exactly ghostly but a bit weird...last year I was sat downstairs watching TV, I was in the corner so there was no way anyone could have been behind me, I felt something pulling my hair, it couldn't have been me because I had my arms crossed, and was sat completely still. Now my hair is only just passed my shoulder so there's no way I could have caught it between my arm or something, & it carried on for about 5 seconds, then it stopped. Was really rather strange.

I went on a residential with my class in 1999 at Habershon house in Filey. One night, everyone was waving their torches around the room and in the opposite corner, I saw a shadow of a man in a hat and a coat. They turned their torches off cos they thought they heard someone coming. A few minutes later, they shined their torches at the wall where I'd seen it and the shadow was gone.
I'll never forget what it looked like. There wasn't anything there that could have made that shadow.

There are a couple of things, and I always thought that I was imagining things, but wondered whether or not it was something else. Anyway, I'll let you be the judge -

* I've had instances where it's been late and I got up from the couch to walk toward the kitchen and I felt someone poke my shoulder, but there was nothing behind me and i was in the house alone. There have been other instances of taps, pokes and prods that I haven't been able to explain.

* When I was on a ghost tour a couple of years ago, a group of us were standing outside a building that is supposed to be one of the most haunted in West. Australia. All was dark inside, and while the tour guide was talking I noticed a light travel past the window - like someone was carrying a candle. Others said they saw it too. We wondered whether it was someone in the building doing it for special effects, and we asked the guide but he said the building was locked and no-one was inside. I've never been able to tell whether he was telling the truth or not.

* The other night was strange, and I really thought I was seeing things, but I was in the car and I got a strong impression of a little blonde girl sitting at my feet and holding onto my knee.

Five years ago, when I was 26 y.o. and single, I lived in a cute little duplex which I absolutely loved; it was the most light and airy apartment I'd ever seen. A couple months after I moved in I had a terrible experience, the most horrifying experience of my life actually. I woke up in the middle of the night (it was 3 AM) and I was lying on my left side. As I awakened fully, I could feel an arm draped over my body (from behind me) and it was caressing my breasts. I became aware that there was a wind blowing in the room -- not whooshing wind, just a soft breeze; I had bangs at the time and it kept blowing my bangs gently against my temples. There were no windows open or fans of any kind on. I was so scared I couldn't move. I could feel the arm draped over my right side and it was just gently rubbing my breasts. I started to pray for God to please make this stop and I think I also stirred a little; after about 10 seconds the arm pulled back and I felt the mattress "give" a little, and then the breeze stopped blowing in the room.

I couldn't move, I just laid there wide awake and completely scared out of my mind for about half an hour. Then I got up my courage, and I reached over and turned my lamp on, got dressed, grabbed my keys and purse and left the house. It was about 3:30 AM and I got in my car and drove to my dad's house and he stayed up with me for the duration of the night. I was completely upset and freaking out. I never went back inside the apartment, but I did call the land-lady to find out about the history of the house and she said it was built in the 1920s and that when she and her teenage son were cleaning the house to prepare it for rental, her son claimed to have seen a black mist form out of thin air in the living room of the other unit in the duplex (the house was originally one home but it was made into two units). Anyway, that night was the most frightening experience of my life. I did not believe in ghosts until I experienced it myself, and to all those who do not believe, I will say that I understand your skepticism of the paranormal, but once you have a spontaneous experience like the one I had, you have no choice but to believe.

That reminds me of the film The Entity, that has to be the best film I've ever seen.

Can I show my ignorance and ask you, what are bangs?

I grew up in a house with a lot of poltergiest activity mostly from my kitchen.

* the glass would come out of a picture frame with the frame still on the wall and be placed somewhere else in the room.

* my radio and tv would turn itself on and off a lot or change station with the remote in clear view and nowhere near me.

* my dog would bark madly at the walls in the kitchen.

* walk upstairs to my room and come back downstairs and the bin would be on the table.

* I'd hear things being moved in the kitchen when no one was in there.

* when we would talk about the ghost/poltergiest it would often react by moving things or knocking picture frames off the wall.

the list goes on, I lived there for 19 years so there's a lot of stuff.

Yes, not enough to make me believe in life after death, but enough not to dismiss it totally neither. That small doubt as twer

I've got a couple.

my mum passed away 6 years ago, i was 18 at the time, abt a month after her death there was a really bad thunderstorm(from when i was a kid till abt 15 i hated thunderstorms) i was lying in bed crying and i felt the bed go down and felt someone lean over and hug me, it made me jump up and i felt the impression in the bed go just afta i sat up.

a year after her death, my sister, bother and i was all standing in the kitchen, i looked over to the door and there was a mist travling very slowly out of the kitchen in to the hall way in the top right hand corner, my sister looked up and saw it 2. (we wasnt cookin and didnt have the ketle on either so it wasnt down to that)

in the house we used to live in when i was a kid, we moved out when i was 6. we had a living room and a dining room. i used to always go in the dining room at night with the dog and sit under the table in the dark and everytime i was in there a figure would apear at the window and just stand there, i did run and tell my parents many times but they didnt belive me even when the dog was barkin and growling at it like crazy they just thought it was me playin games. Now i would have said this could have pro been a weirdo that wud do this and stand at a window. but to get to the back garden you had to go thru the house, there was a 8ft fence all the way round and the other side of them fences was other ppl's gardens. the figure just always seemed to pop up from the left and just stand in the centre of the window, and it always happened after i had been sitting in there for abt 5mins.

A few years ago I was a manager in a sports shop here in Dublin. The building is about 200 years old and there were a few stories going around about hauntings there, which I took with a pinch of salt (including one of the ghosts of some rebel prisoners who, it's said, were shot in the basement by British soldiers in 1916.)!

On this particular night I was locking up the store with another manager when I remembered I hadn't locked the offices upstairs. The back staircase in the building stretches four of the six storeys(incl. basement)and is open(you could fit a lift shaft down the middle),and poorly lit. I went up, locked the offices and made my way down the stairs again. About halfway down I happened to glance across at the door I was going to go through. There, out the corner of my eye, I'm almost certain I saw a hand coming down on the rail a few steps behind me! I don't know whether it was an optical illusion(it had been a very long day and I was shattered!), the effect of being alone in a creepy staircase or something else but it was definitely 'brown trousers time'!!!

tourmalyn, your story is fantastic and scary!

It's so true about the skeptics thing, they disbelieve until one day some experience turns their whole world around and they percieve things totally differently.

I've had some spooky experiences. Years ago, when I was around 15 I went down to my relatives house for about a week, it wasn't haunted when I had been there before because only the renovations they did stirred it up.

But what I experienced was somebody calling my name in a crystal-clear voice that I KNOW I didn't imagine. Footsteps in the hallway at night, etc.

But one day, I was sitting at the end of the bed and the doorway was directly infront of me that allows you to see straight down the hallway. I looked up from the book I was reading and halfway down the hall I saw what was definetly a male entity leaning out from the hallway that branched off on the right. But it was like a solid black shadow, with no features, just an outline, and it wasn't just a 'shadow' because it wasn't on the wall or floor. I'll never forget what I saw, and I feel privilaged to have seen it. Like unlocking one of life's many secrets...

I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you...stranger.

When I was about 9, I was in my bedroom when I heard a knock at the door. I went to the top of the stairs to see who it was as my mum answered it. It was my best friends parents looking really sad, her mum crying. My immediate thought was my best friend was dead at which point I ran back to my room crying.

Next thing, my mum came in and said she had some bad news. I said I know, Sarah is dead. My mum said, no, its not Sarah, its her dad, he was killed that afternoon in a shooting (clay pigeon) accident.

I said it cant be, because I saw him standing behind sarahs mum at the front door.

My mum said I had imagined it, but I can remember it like it was yesterday, he was there!

Not many to be honest but there was one that will be stay in my mind till my dying days.

About 10 years ago when I was living in a previous house I was sleeping in the master bedroom with my wife. We used to have a 3-piece wardrobe (closet) in the room with the middle wardrobe having a full length mirror on the front door. At night in the pitch blackness you can hardly see the mirror and neither could you barely see your own reflection when looking from the bed.

Anyway, we went to bed as usual. It was dark, the curtains were drawn, lights off. It was a restless night and it took me a good hour or so to fall asleep. But at some point in the night my wife jabbed her elbow in my stomach and whispered "did you hear something?"

I was barely awake and my hearing isn't as acute as hers, so I just replied in the negative. But just as I was about to turn over there was a creaking sound coming from the wardrobe.

"There it goes again!" she said. I opened my eyes and looked through the blackness towards the mirror. Once my eyes had adjusted to the gloom I could just about see an outline reflection of a chair in the mirror. But what really made me silenty freak was the image was actually moving; as if someone was holding the door and shaking it, not violently, but just enough to make a visual difference.

My wife confirmed the same thing too: that the images in the mirror were shaking. It couldn't have been the door suddenly opening because that would generate just one smooth movement. And it wasn't down to a draft blowing on the door causing it to rock!

This carried on for a few minutes and THEN .... we both saw a dull grey human-form shape move across the mirror blocking the reflection of the chair. And then the door stopped shaking and that was that.

we switched on the light and looked at the door: it was closed and totally secure!

We never saw this happen again but it sure was spooky

I've had lost but I'll just say a few

1 I was mopping a corridor this mist size of a 7 year old ish walk(the only way I can describe) I was at the corner of this corridor it walked around the corner (so past me) and dissapearded after about 7 seconds I wasn't scaed it was weird.

2 I was working in a day nursery and a tape was on with nursery rhymes and such in the middle was a horrible growling voice saying things that were inaudible I rewound it and it never happened again it was like being talked at from the other side.

3 At work(where this corridor is) whenyour on this certain toilet you can see this shadow race past under the toilet door at speed, it can't be anyone alive because the doorway it runs through is blocked ff by a cupboard with chemicals in it. so it's like a child racing through the toilets (it used to be a school)

I've only had one Ghostly Experience.

It was about 4 years ago and i was on a History trip to Newcastle Keep with a few other History classes from my school. We went to quite a few different rooms in the Castle and they felt fine, but when we (Myself and my friends Marc, Jon & Chris) went into a room called the Queens Chamber, it was down a flight of stairs and only had one window in the room and that was a little window on the stairs, it felt wierd like we were being watched. Then just as i was about to walk into the middle of the room, I saw the strangest thing I've ever seen, it was a really bright ball of light moving across the room and quite a big Orb above it, it was there for 5-6 seconds at the most but i couldnt turn away from it, then my bloody friend Michael slammed the metal gate against the stone wall and made us all crap ourselves.

Then Most Haunted actually went to Newcastle Keep and said something about people seeing a white light and an Orb in the Queens Chamber.

My only Ghostly Experience, but i have been a believer since then.
