Loved MH....until I discovered GH. I find David Wells to be the only credible thing in MH.

I watch both but prefer GH. But if you were to put David on GH then there would be the perfect paranormal show for me.

I prefer to see it as the promise of redemption.

I will take ghost hunters any day. Heck I would rather give birth with no drugs than have to watch Most Haunted EVER again. I learned a lot watching Ghost Hunters. Plus Grants so adorkable(my made up word for an adorable dork). they inspired me to get into the field. I owe them a lot. Most Haunted I learned to scream really well wanna see AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Each show is targeting a specific niche amongst the paranormal believer demographic. Which one is best depends on the predispositions of the viewer.

Some people are inclined to accept the paranormal in the context of new age mumbo jumbo. Those people dig Most Haunted but probably find Ghost Hunters too dry and Paranormal State too overbearing.

Some people can only accept the paranormal when it's presented as religio-mysticism, and Paranormal State is the show for them.

And some people prefer to be blinded by peudoscience because they like to think that they are far too rational for these other belief systems. Ghost Hunters plays to that delusion.

But no one is any more right that the others. Ghost Hunters is probably the "best" because their approach seems to have conned the most believers, though, from an ethical standpoint, I think that probably makes them the worst.

Really its simple Most Haunted is a faked show while Ghost Hunters isn't. GH tries to debunk things and when it can't it could be a haunting. While on MH if someone farts its the spirits trying to contact them. Its no wonder that LivingTV doesn't have MH on as much as they used too and the Live shows have also declined in number. People have awoken to MH parts if not all of the show being a setup. I really think that Livingtv should show GH Live shows over here. And cancel MH completely. I'm sick of shows like MH making the paranormal field a laughing joke and us BELIVERS look like crazy fools.

I've just started watchin ghost hunters and by far it is so much better.
Most haunted would be better if they actually ran towards stuff rather then run away when they hear a noise. I would love to go on it and just hang around or go towards something when you hear it.

Ghost Hunters is real.
Most Haunted is a very fake show,(i hate how they show slow mow replays of "orbs")

reply

Adorakable! I love it!

One huge difference is that GH will often go somewhere and find nothing. MH always seems to have activity and they almost always makes things move and tap on pipes. MH just seems to be a little to lucky with activity to be believable.

Gh should go to all the places MH goes and do the scientific approach.

If you believe Ghost Hunters is real, then you have to believe Most Haunted is too. Think about, if you believe in ghosts, real things MUST happen to the Most Haunted team if they're in a location that is said to be very haunted.

"If you believe Ghost Hunters is real, then you have to believe Most Haunted is too."

Rofl.. So, believing one kinda-credible show is acceptable, then another not-even-remotely-credible show *must* be accepted? Your 'logic' fails, because they are two different levels of 'real'. GH at least tries to be real, and have debunked 'haunted' places on many occasions, even places that are generally accepted (See the GH episode at Lizzy Borden's house). MH pre-scripts what everybody is going to say and do.

Comparing GH to MH is like comparing a soccer game to a movie about soccer.

"Think about, if you believe in ghosts, real things MUST happen to the Most Haunted team if they're in a location that is said to be very haunted."

Because everyplace that says they are haunted *must* be haunted, right? I point to, again, to the Lizzy Borden house. There are hundreds of reports of 'ghosts' there yearly, but GH declared it as 'not haunted'. They also punched holes in a number of the ghost stories.

Yeah, I loved Most Haunted. I was infatuated, then I clicked
on Ghost Hunters and my Friday night rituals of watching
all the Most Haunted shows on Travel disappeared.

I'm all Wednesday nights now.

Ghost hunters definatly. But wait, if you have it vs. Most Haunted you might as well have it up against "Ghost Busters" too. It's as real as Most Haunted. I'm waiting for that show to investigate slimer.

Most Haunted is no way in any shape or form more superior to Ghost Hunters. Don’t get me wrong I was a massive fan of the show from the get go but I personally think that Derek Acorah made the side embarrassing to watch.

His little "possessed" state was such a boring a repetitive action in the show. I can tell you the moment I thought "Is this is a joke" was the "Mary Loves Dick".

And after a while the screaming gets to you. For people wanting to communicate to the dead they sure seem to get mighty scared when asking for a reply and usually run away!

Also the consistent pointing of camera's in one another faces is annoying. You make a show to capture a spirit and the only thing us "viewers" get to see is the frantic Yvette talking to the camera. So when something does happen you get to see the reaction of her or another crew member.

You could go on for ages pointing out the bad points on Most Haunted that I'd rather not continue.

Now Ghost Hunters, these guys know how to do things. Always focusing the camera on what they are looking at, so we can see what they see. Besides from Brian (the one who sees something every show, thankfully not with the group no more) they have a solid group of down to earth people who are actually into paranormal investigating.

The mind set this group have on each case is a "This is not a haunting" bonus for us sceptics. You love the fact that they can put things down to normal, natural situations. So when the truly unexplained happens you feel that more confused on the subject.

They both have their good and bad points. But Ghost Hunters is a much more believable show AND more entertaining show to watch. If someone was to ask me what I recommend I would hands down recommend Ghost Hunters.

I used to really enjoy the earlier series of MH, perhaps because it was new, amateur and very naive, it made for quite interesting tv. Moreover there was quite a few investigations where little or nothing happened during their vigil much to their disappointment but only added to thier initial credibility in that you can't just summon ghosts on demand!

However after the Derek Acorah debacle in S5 I think I simply tuned out from regular viewing; all of a sudden the production values had increased in terms of more money for presentation & style along with far too many crew members on these so-called loan vigils.

The Live shows became increasingly annnoying with their "vote for this, vote for that blah blah...." and it will cost you £1 a minute etc etc. The numerous ad breaks also made me go into a rage too.

But the really annoying thing about MH now is that they still haven't learnt anything; they don't embrace technology to the full, they don't wear headcams, for example, so we get to see what they see, instantly. Rather than someone shouting "did you see that!!!!???" and yet the camera is still pointing up Yvette's nose, just like they've been doing since S1!!

However, I'm fairly new to Ghost Hunters, but am initially quite impressed with how the team perform and investigate without screaming or running away at the drop of a hat.

reply

I perfer Ghost Hunters, they are 'real' about what they do. Paranormal State is too dramatic, and too 'cold'. I hate listening to Ryan's tape recordings about the case. MH is ok, but GH is my favorite overall.

reply

MH does this fairly often, GH also does it too, but not as much - leave the room when there is some sort of phenomenon happening. They are there to investigate paranormal phenomenon - so why leave the area where something is happening?

There is too much time spent with the cameras on people's faces - I don't want to see reactions - I want to see what they're reacting to.

Paranormal State is too religious.

reply

I definately prefer Most Haunted. I love all the European locations and I also love the "Britishness" of the show. I've come to really like Yvette, Karl, David and all the others and I look forward to watching them every Friday night.

Ghost Hunters is a good show too though. I'm really hoping Ghost Hunters International will take off and become popular. They are still working out some of the kinks in that show.

The funny thing is, GH is actually the fake show not MH. GH wants to be serious 'debunkers' but they're not in the least believable, in fact it's all highly suspicious and look rehearsed and staged. And the two founders and that bully Steve, I don't trust any of them.

reply

I love Ghost Adventure's now the other two are getting boring and this thread was started in 2007 before Ghost Adventure's came on.

Honestly I used to like Ghost Hunters more, but it has become too cold and robotic without any "soul" to it; and now that Acorah has left Most Haunted and the newer mediums aren't as theatrical (even if they may be faking a lot or everything) Most Haunted is more enjoyable as at the end of the day they still have O'Keefe to add credibility.

reply

I agree with Vze2r8xz, I always found GH to be cold and clinical, whereas Most Haunted had soul (no pun intended); I stress had because David Wells, Dr. Ciaran O'Keeffe, Richard Felix, Gordon Smith and Chris Conway are my favourites, but most of them are gone now. Had it not been for Ciaran, then I'd be long gone too.
