'Open-minded Skeptic'
Ciarán O'Keeffe is often described as an "open-minded skeptic". I've seen this phrase described on the internet as an oxymoron. In fact, it is the total opposite, it's a tautology. Continuing to examine possible explanations for a particular phenomenon rather than forming conclusions is precisely what defines skepticism. The moment you believe that you have arrived at the absolute incontrovertible truth you have ceased to be a skeptic. That is the definition of religion. Genuine skeptics are motivated by intellectual curiosity rather than a need to justify their own preconceptions. They are not on a mission to de-bunk or decry rather simply to analyse, they have no emotional stake. I credit O'Keeffe as a genuine skeptic. As a false claimant to the title, I would cite http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_French. This man's impatient demeanor when dealing with professed clairvoyants indicates that they are a challenge to his own beliefs.
