Ok, so the wife was hiding for 8 years, and presumably ONLY her father knew she was alive? To protect her, dad told her that your husband Alex was dead.
She went 8 years without following up, googling him (he was a very successful doctor and would be extremely easy to find on a web search), etc.
- Why would she distrust her father?
- Alex was a successful pediatrician at a local level in Paris(?). He's not getting Nobel prizes etc. for his work.
The story starts in 1997 i.e. the internet is not the same as it then becomes by the mid 2000s.
Plus, how do you know she waited 8 years to google him/follow up? She might have found out much earlier than that. Knowing that Neuville's people was looking for her, she couldn't just rush back to France. Devising a plan/taking precautions would've been necessary.
