So... I'm only an hour and 15 minutes into the film, but I'm assuming that Joe/Earl is gay, right?

When he and Aviva first meet, he's trying to have sex with her vaginally, but then turns her over and does her anally. Then when they're in the hotel room the second time he says, "Maybe I don't like women"

So... just to clarify, he was gay, right?

He's not gay, he's a pedophile. When he says 'I don't like women' he means he doesn't like grown up women. Aviva is still a girl and not a woman yet.

Or maybe its a thing pedophile do so as not to get caught, either so that she still remains a virgin the normal way or so that she doesn't get pregnant.
