Me and my bf figured out the whole subplot from the first scene.I guess we are well "trained" in mpd movies (or any other disorders)
I loved Christian Bale's performance though..

I've seen memento plenty of times and I couldn't quite predict the Machinists ending. I thought that Trevor accidentally killed His old friend Ivan while on a fishing trip, and felt guilty about it. I honestly had no idea where it was going, besides the fact that he was definitely going crazy from no sleep. As for Marie and the hit and run, I genuinely didn't see it coming. Just sayin

Agreed but i though it was a better film than Memento. Even though i do think Memento is a great film.

Why, they only share a plot in the most superficial way ... there's a twist. Other than that I don't see any connection between the two films whatsoever.

It was fairly easy to predict, yes. May I say though that the Reznik trip is not about its destination, but the journey. If you loved Bale's performance, then you must know what I mean.

I didn't completely get what he had done until he went on the ride with Nicholas, where it was basically spelled out.

I predicted the entire thing within 10 minutes. But I did really like this movie. It is rare a predictable movie is so good.

No you didn't. There were no clues in the first few minutes that indicated anything that could bring you to that conclusion. STFU.

My god, it's not just Memento. I got around to watching Fight Club today and The Machinist copied that too (even moreso than Memento).

I still think The Machinist is great because of Bale's performance but the more movies I watch, the less original it seems.

It was pretty obvious from the get-go that "Ivan" and his plot was all in Trevor's mind and a stand-in for something shady in his own past. However, it wasn't obvious what exactly it was that Trevor did, and how that reality interfaced with his delusions, so this kept the film interesting. I found the way they meshed the fantasy about his date with Maria and her son to Trevor's real connection with them, for example. That was hardly obvious from the goings-on at the amusement park.

Christian Bales performance was one of the worst and most obnoxious thing I've ever seen in a film
