Got himself arrested and went to sleep!? WTF?

I assumed he was feeling sorry for that he accidentally killed a kid.
But it appeared it was just fear of `getting jailed`.
He got himself arrested and finally managed to sleep.

I think the ending did not match the plot.
Jailed or not, he is still the `killer`, so he's not supposed to find peace and `sleep` in jail.

IMHO, It would be better if the director did not show him fall asleep in that last scene.

I think his conscience was preventing him from sleeping. He killed the kid and got away with it, but could not live with himself as a result.

Once his secret was revealed and was finally being punished for it, he could finally let go.

At least that's my take on it.

Good movie.

EXACTLY! He finally could let go of his guilt & sleep. And likely eat!

It actually makes perfect sense.

Trevor has not been able to sleep for an entire year due to the guilt he felt for running over that kid, and his schizophrenic behavior has blinded his perception of reality until he was finally able to catch up.

Once he chose to man up for the crime he committed, he was able to find solace and had no more trouble sleeping. He is paying for the crime he committed and he is in peace

Pretty much this.^ I agree that the ending makes much sense.

Couldn't have said it much better than the two before me. The ending makes perfect sense.

It was more the guilt of him fleeing the scene of the accident and never confessing what had happened that haunted him and prevented him from sleeping. Once he turned himself in, it was like that guilt washed away and he was able to rest. Obviously some days, he'll wake up and still feel the guilt of killing the kid - it's not like everything is alright now, but it's because he finally confessed what he did that he's able to finally rest.

Exactly, the ending of this movie is practically the best part about the movie.

OP is incorrectly assuming that Trevor now feels no guilt about what he was done now that he owned up to it.

He still feels plenty of guilt, but he is happy enough with his decision that he can finally go to sleep comfortably.

reply

The last scene where we see him sleep(finally) is very important because it shows that now that he turned himself in and acknowledged what he had done, he is finally free of the guilt and pain that had been weighing him down greatly and is now in peace with himself; therefore he can finally get some rest and live with what he had done.

reply

I see what you mean..
He still killed the boy and ran
But going to jail was a bi-product of him facing reality again
Admitting and facing his guilt instead of escaping into insanity
Take his blame the SIMPLE but sane and human way

reply

OP obviously missed the point of the whole movie.

That jail didn't look like a jail.
