Not even a nomination for Bale in this?

I mean just for the body transformation he deserved a nod, and when you see how good he was in this , and how he got into the character, you just can ignore the fact that it was one of his best interpretations in a movie.

Well said....imagine if Daniel Day-Lewiszzzzzzz appeared from the shadows as he does every 4 years and cherry-picked another role like this one - the 'Academy' members would all be straight round to his house with another Oscar for him before an envelope was even opened!

Ah, I remember the days when Bale getting an Oscar nomination was wishful thinking.

Yeah he was good, but since the film was pretty indie and Bale wasn't a big name back then (that doesn't factor in all the time, of course), it's no surprise he didn't get recognized by the higher ups.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

Did you see the nominations for that year? Who could you possibly remove from that list?

^this would be an important reason. Look at the awards this movie got, so few that i can count them with my fingers yet the high imdb score reflects that a good portion of us consider this movie better than most others.

Christian Bale fanboys pollute this site so it's high rating isn't a surprise

If body transformations are the thing that warrants a nomination then "The Biggest Loser" contestants should win Oscars every year.

To be honest, I'm shocked that Bale wasn't even nominated for this movie. He did really hard job for his role.
