So in the Tavern, Hellstrom begins by asking a question about who is on his card.
The others answer 'No'.
So in reality the game should proceed to the next player.

Correct. I noticed it too and found it annoyingly contrived to fit the script.

They were playing the drunk version of the game.

The proper version would take too long and no one would ever get it right
