Are we supposed to believe that Hilary Duff is believably competing for a scholarship with that voice? The whole thing with her and her mother lying to her father is absurd. And David Keith is a complete stereotype as the toothpick-chewing father.

David Keith has turned out to be lousy in most of his roles. He certainly was not convincing here, not in the slightest. He started out with some promise in TOP GUN but most of his work since then has been mediocre. Duff would never have been at that school in real life. She lacks any discernible talent. I know, as I have a daughter who attended the summer arts program at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and spent her senior year at the gifted arts high school in New Haven, Conn. Competition for these programs is fierce and only the best of the best are accepted. Duff would not have made it past the first stage.
