this film would have been better
if almost anyone other than Hilary Duff was cast. maybe someone who didn't need their voice tweaked so much in post production? maybe someone who could act?

I agree .... I am watching it right now, and the singing makes me cringe ... It doesn't sound anything like her .... ihck.Someone who is a better singer would have been much much better. Other than that, it's not a bad film. I just don't like Her that much ... There are plenty of people who can sing and act ...(neither of which she can do well) BOTH well, that would have been perfect. [myself for example .... well, just kidding :) ]

i think the concept of the movie was really good. but hilary duff just made it bad. i don't hate her or anything. i just think she wasn't the right person for the part. the school her character went to was supposed to be the best in the country. but her singing didn't sound like the best. if someone else would've played the part i think this could've been a great movie.
shareI think Duff is better actress than singer. Because Duff and I have some similarities in our lives, she works in the role for me.
That aside,
The TV show American Juniors showed that the woods are full of talented teens who can act and sing, but a risk averse Hollywood would pick a name over a true talent. A true shame.
Being a purist, and maybe future technology will afford a chance, we could have the movie with Duff, and with a true talent in her place.
It's totally true. I really like this movie, but I was just watching it and realized that Hilary Duff is a terrible actress and not a very good singer. She looks so self conscious. She always shaking her head so her hair will cover her face or she is touching something on her clothing or face. Honestly, they could have picked someone who would have been SO much better.

I love Hilary Duff and thought she brought the perfect innocence and heart to the role. When you look at some of today's teen stars, Hilary at least had some legitimate talent and likability.
However, the guy who played Jay didn't do it for me at all. I remember him doing a movie with Amanda Bynes around the same time, and I didn't care for him in either film.
The movie would have been terrible if Hilary had been in it or not.
However at least her fame got the movie somewhere.
The movie isn't very good, that's the truth. Very Disney channel or Nickelodeon material...
Anyway, it would have been much better without Hilary Duff. She shows that she can do blonde comedies, but she wasn't the right choice for this movie.
She doesn't stand out from the rest. Her voice is weak to try to shine in a music school. Sorry.
The male lead was weak too, and the script. An entertaining movie, but nothing else.
