I think she has absolutely no talent. I have yet to see her take on a challanging movie role or even a DIFFERENT role than she has previously played. All her lines come out awkward and she can't do any dramatic scenes especially if shes's required to cry. And in the scenes where she uses her own voice rather than lip synching to someone else's-which proves she and everyone around her knows she can't sing- sounds horrible. This movie is so unrealistic because there is no way she would get in to a prestigious performing school. She should't have even been considered for this role if she can't even carry a tune. There are much better singer/actors out there. The only thing that she may have on them is that she's cute. I'm sorry if I offended anyone because you're in love with Hilary or whatever I just really felt the need to post this because I was so god damn annoyed. And yes I would have changed the channel immediately however I was at a friend's house and had no control over the remote.
I totally agree. I hate when Paul (in the movie) is like "Terri, you've got one of the best voices I've ever heard." Every single time I'm thinking, "Well you must have not heard to many voice then. Because she sucks ass." I totally think someone else should have played the role.
I agree with what the first poster wrote. Hilary Duff has no talent whatsoever. And it's pretty pathetic that she is continuously cast in the teen movies where she plays the girl with the hard life that magically has something good happen to her, she meets the cute boy that she wants to be with but usually can't because he's in with the popular crowd and she's not, then through the usual twist of events, they end up together at the end of the movie and everything is peachy keen once again. Oh, and let's not forget the token scene where she ends up standing up to the person keeping her down (be it a parent, the bitchy popular girl or whoever) and that's suppose to be the thing that turns the movie around and from that point on, all these good things happen to her. If Miss Duff wants to prove that she's no longer the little girl that was Disney Channel's Lizzy McGuire and wants to be thought of as a real actress, then she needs to start taking or looking for more serious roles other then these predictable characters that are all the same cutesy innocent little girls. What really intrigues me about her character in "Raise Your Voice" is the fact that her character falls in love with the popular kid that is titled the "bad boy" of the school. Now it's been awhile since I last read a review for the movie, but isn't the guy that her character likes, the "bad boy", wasn't he called that because he dated five girls at the same time or he cheated on Hilary Duff's character with his ex or something? And the messed up part is that Hil's character actually decides to stay with this guy at the end of the movie because he claims that he's a "changed man" or some BS like that. What does it tell young impressionable girls that go to see or rent this movie? That if you truly believe, the guy that you like who did you wrong but says that he's changed for the good, then the two of you will end up having a great relationship? Like I said before, complete BS! If Hilary wants to portray a girl that younger girls can look up to, then what her character should have done was dump the "bad boy". I mean sure, everyone has heard of the old saying, "people can change" but the odds of someone like that changing is one in a million. Think about it, if the guy cheated on her once or dated five different girls at the same time, what's going to stop him from doing it again? People like that rarely change and they should have put that in the film to make it more believable.
You took the words right out of my mouth (except the swear words :)) about Hilary. But I don't understand about Jay. Did it say in the movie that he dated five girls? I think I must have missed that. But it's true. Hilary takes him back immediately, even though she was "very angry". They didn't even talk about the fact that it's stupid to get drunk and he shouldn't have done it. Besides that, I didn't see the bad boy in him... but I may have missed something.
Yay, finally some sane posters. I LOVE YOU ALL. Hilary is poo. 100% on board with y'all. Didn't y'all just BURST out laughing when her brother died, and like when (as you've said) her brother says "You've got one of the best voices I've heard"... I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING!! That actor must have had to be paid LOADS to say such a blasphemic line. The movie was a joke, because it's obvious to anyone that Hilary Duff is a terrible actress and singer. HAHA. And the singing in class scene made me piss with lafter. It was so bad, even with a dubbed voice, and I could NOT stop lafing when everyone cheered at the end. HAHA. She is so abysmally atrocious.
I completely agree. I dont think she deserves the roles that she gets. There are so many talented people out there who could protray this role. I dont mean to sound mean but I just cant stand the people who say " oh, she's so talented and cute" when she's not. She's an average singer. A crappy actress who needs to GROW UP. I was watching cheaper by the dozen 2 even with the very few lines that she had, I cringed every time she said them, shes that bad. Its just not fair. I'm also an actress (theatre) and I work very hard, I always nail auditions and whats funny is that I would never take any of the roles that she has played because there is no challenge & I can't get discovered but this no-talent, bubbly loser can. It just makes me so mad sometimes and that is why I forbid myself from ever watching a Hilary Duff movie. Sorry to her fans but you need to wake and praise the GOOD actors out there.
I agree. She's like a lot of the other actors and actresses that are on Disney channel. They can't act, can't sing, and they have no presence about them at all.
I was in the same boat as you my friend. I was over at someone's house too and it was too awkward to ask her to change it, so I just suffered through the movie. She however loved every minute of it.
I have a lot of respect for the fact that Hilary made it through her teen years in the limelight and seems to have blossomed into a normal, well-adjusted young woman in her twenties. When I look at today's teen queens, including Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, I have to give Hilary props for handling that fame and keeping a good head on her shoulders. Aside from a few random tabloid rumors about her "feud" with Lindsay Lohan and a weight drop in her later teen years, Hilary turned out a LOT better than most girls in her situation. She never went crazy, wore skanky outfits, posed naked for magazines, or got into drama with her parents/family.
Her career has obviously gone down since she peaked with Lizzie McGuire and her string of adolescent movies, but I think she has the potential to get back in the business, experiment with a few new roles, and be successful. Personally, I really liked her movies from her teen years. She has that charming, innocent, girl next door quality. Maybe she was never Oscar caliber, and maybe she stuck with a lot of scripts aimed at the tween crowd, but that doesn't mean she didn't have talent. I think she did. She was a cute, normal looking teenager whose characters were never over-the-top obnoxious or bratty. If you look back on the old Lizzie McGuire episodes, it's amazing how they differ so much from today's Disney shows, including Hannah Montana, iCarly, and Shake It Up. It's hard to believe how much things have changed in just the 10 years since "Lizzie" was on the air. The humor has become so much more crude, and the teens are more obnoxious, which is sad. Hilary wasn't perfect, but I think she was a much better role model than the ones kids are getting right now.
The thing is that everybody in this movie showed how good actors they all are, because if I was playing a role in this movie I wouldn't be able to play my part and "believe" Hilary has one of the best voices I've ever heard. LOL We have to give them credit for that.
