It Could Have Been Great
This movie had a great storyline for a good chick flick, but in my opinion, totally failed to deliver. I'll start with Hilary...she's gorgeous, seems really sweet and genuine, but she is the same person in every movie I've seen her in. I don't think she has any real acting abilities. She can't be the character, it's as if the character has to be her. Her acting was fair at best..but the singing, oh Lord. It was awful. This girl, Terri, was supposed to be a musical prodigy, an amazing singer and songwriter. There is no way she would have been accepted to a prestigious music program like that. She doesn't sing awful, but she is nowhere near amazing. I would say my singing voice is somewhat similar to hers, and I know full well that it's fine to sing along to the radio, but I realize I do not have enough talent to be a "professional."
John Corbett, I love him, but he was too good for this movie. He made the other actors look worse than they already were.
Not to mention the plethora of mistakes. I noticed numerous continuity mistakes, to the point that it was actually distracting.
It makes me sad to see a movie that has potential, but doesn't turn out well due to the wrong actors being cast and the lack of talent from the director. Had they cast someone like Mandy Moore (not necessarily her, but someone like her who actually has musical talent), cleaned up the story a bit and hired a better director, this could have been a great chick flick.
I'll give them an A for effort, but the movie was just a big fail, in my opinion. Such a disappointment.
