Lola? Mary? What?
Why the hell did she want to be called Lola if her given name was Mary? What the hell...? I can't even believe I'm bothered by this fact. I hated this film. 1 out of 10 easily. The only good thing about it was Megan Fox!

Mary is sooo plain... overused.... overused and Plain, don't get me wrong, it's a nice name, but just soooooo plain. Lola, that is kinda annoying but hey better than Mary.

In what 18th century universe do you live in where MARY of all names is overused? I've never met anyone besides my 70-something-year-old grandma called Mary, let alone a teenage girl.
IMDb is not a fansite, contrary to popular opinion!
I think that answers the question right there. Mary isn't overused (anymore) but it is very old-fashioned.
shareShe wanted to be called Lola because shes a drama queen and Mary is such a plain old name and she wanted a more exciting one. Why Lola specifically? I don't know. Shes a teenager and leave it at that. i know I tried to get all my sophomore teachers to call me Skittles...just because i could. It isnt that terrible a movie btw. sure its no prize winner but it is no worse than some.
shareI agree. It isn't THAT bad.
I must admit the ads for it and the book or whatever made me like WHAT is Lohan DOING? This right after Mean Girls? HUH? This is so cheesy!
But when I saw it, I found it to be not that bad. There are better movies, yes, but this one isn't the worst I have seen.
Not that I like the name Lola much.
But it has been mentioned that sometimes girls want people to call them something...
On Reba, they mentioned a time when Cheyenne wanted everyone to call her Condoleeza (when Cheyenne "was an alcoholic", the topic came up...is she jumping the bandwagon?). Condoleeza sounds funny to me, but it is a unique name.
Lol, not even sure I'm spelling it right.
But yeah, Lola isn't a great name, but it's not like every fifth baby born is named Lola.
Some people don't like the name there parents gave them and take on a different name and even change it legally sometimes.
shareShe liked the name. :D
It's much like me absolutely worshiping the name Audrey.
Why? I don't know. I just do. :P
Nothing special about that name, I simply don't want to be a Shila, but an Audrey.
What's the difference between the two, you would ask? I have no idea. :D
The Dark Lord will rise again!
Lazy screenwriting. The name "Maria" aside, more baby girls are named Lola now than Mary. I know a ton of Baby Boomer Marys, but the popularity of the name for little girls has all but died out in later generations. Mary was pushed aside by all the J names (Jennifer, Jessica, etc), then the Celtic names (like Caitlyn and Brianna), and now by names like Cadence and Madison.
But the name Mary also had a wholesome image (like Susan), which is probably why "Lola" doesn't like it.
