Ok this may sound realy sick, but I loved the scene during the suicide (Seppuku) when he cuts the head of the man and his headless body walks backwards down the steps. But this seems to be the way this genre is going now. Why do yuo think that the genre is becoming more gorey. Kurosawa managed to portray a gritty mise en scene in his action sequences, without using tonns of blood or effects. Do you think people are getting bored, or that that makers are getting worried?

look, in real life when someone shoves a sword in your gut, you dont spasm and die with no blood, there's blood and lots of it and same when people cut off your head. Adding gore as a shock factor is annoying, but in period pieces it makes things more realistic, people did get their heads cut off.

That part of the movie may have been stylized but the majority was classic chanbara. Even with the head scene it wasn't as if blood was gushing everywhere in some over dramatic way.

Real chanbara movies which became famous by Kurosawa and Hideo Gosha were extremely violent and alot of the time exaggerated death. But the swordplay was always or mostly realistic and this movie clearly stays true to that.

If people want gore they'll watch something like Kill Bill.
