culture

While sitting here for a couple of minutes and the pros and the cons of many's opinions. I highly respected and valued their opinions as well as yours; however, I have something I would like to address.

The movie may not be the greatest movie ever, but gives it a credit.

The movie embodies the culture of a typical black family.

Historically, black families have been subjected to common sterotype, biased, or even predjuice. Honestly, typically when we were asked to think of a black family.... We could barely think of one like the cosby's family (a television episode in the 90's). A civilized and well educated black family.

The father, Nate, is an insurance man and the wife, dorothy, is studying in accounting. The kids seem to be very articulated. The daughter makes her own clothes, and the son can rhyme. Remarkably, the youngest daughter can even detect when the father was contradicted himself ("mommy told me not to talk to drug dealer", which she mistaken her dad for one when the officer found an apparently a marijuana pipe). The kids are remarkably brilliant. Please do not let the way they talk to the measure of their being or intelligence. President Bush does not speak a choerent sentence, does it mean he is "stupid"? If it does, then we must be dumb enough to allow a stupid runs our country.

Ok now... I think the hidden message of the movie: you can have a healthy family and know where you are coming from (culture). The way the son "rapping" is part of the black culture. It is the meaning of expressing ourselves just like poetry or prose. The daughter's talent in making clothes is a sign of creavtity. The youngest daughter's imaginary dog is a sign of faith. Although she may or may not have known the dog does exist or not, but she has the faith to believe it does. Why? because imginary friends or dogs or anything provide us a security during our earliest childhood. It has been psychologically proven (ask me later). The family renuion is part of the black culture. Actually, it is not part of just the black's culture, but of humankind's culture. We all love meeting our relatives and chat or whatever for a weeekend. It is a vacation we would love to have. I am not going into details, but if you wanted... ask me and I will elaborate.

In every movie, there is always a hidden message. Whether it is presence in the movie or behind the scene, it is always the duty of the viewer to try to guess what was the director's purpose of the movie?

Like I said it may not be a great movie or whatever. Nevertheless but there is a message, a crucial message. I am asking you to step outside of your way of thinking and try figure out what is the message of the movie?

I welcome any comments or criticisms.
