Same Old Gags.

So which of the Little Britain skits are NON forumlaic? Ie all the other sketches are the same thing over and over, so which have a degree of something new each time?

All I can think of is Vicki Pollard and to a degree, Fat Fighters although the constant gag of not being able to understand the Indian woman is old). The Scottish Hotelier was funny, but they retired him. Kenny Craig, ASIDE the "look in to my eyes.." bit is usually quite original too.

Here's the ones which are the SAME JOKE EVERY SINGLE TIME!! If you tune in to ANY episode, this is what you will see:

LOU AND ANDY:
Andy will want something, Lou will think it's a bad idea but will confirm it with Andy, who will then change his mind afterwards.
Lou will go to get help for Andy, who when Lou isnt looking, will get out of the chair and do something physical, returning to his chair before Lou sees.

BUBBLES:
She will get naked and is fat.

DAFFYD:
He will state that he's gay, possibly accuse someone else of being homophobic, and be in disbelief/shock/discomfort when told of other gays being present in his village.

SHOP:
The boring man will ask for something obscure, the shopkeeper will call up to his wife, who will reply after a delay, and they will exchange lines about variants on the item the boring man requested.

ANNE:
Her carer/doctor will be showing another man about Anne's progress in a new activity, in which she will do it stupidly and use the words 'eh eh eh', sometimes culminating in licking someone's face or exposing herself.

OLD PISSING WOMAN:
She'll piss on the floor in floods, but not notice it, whilst whoever she is conversing with will do.

COMPUTER SAYS NO:
A frumpy woman will be working somewhere involving a computer, but will not be helpful, using the phrase 'computer says no' to a customer's request, and making unhelpful suggestions afterwards, often ending by coughing at the customer.

RACIST WOMAN:
Maggie, the taller woman, will encounter something ethnic or foreign, and projectile vomit everywhere and over everyone.

LINDA:
She will phone someone and make a request for a student who has come to her for help, whilst describing their obvious physical descriptions, with no tact, and often breaking political correctness.

EMILY HOWARD:
Will have to encounter someone, who will refer to her as being male, which she'll deny.

SEBASTIAN:
Is gay and in love with the prime minister and will make passes at him whilst being jealous of anyone else vying for his attention.

I've probably missed others, but you know what I mean, they're all the bloody same, EVERY SINGLE TIME!

If they got RID of the above ones and made some new sketches, it'd be funnier. Plenty of times they've done a single sketch or a sketch that was just in one series or just one episode but 2 occurances etc which were really funny! They should do more like that instead of lazily just regurgitating the same jokes over and over.

Do you agree?

And can you think of any of the repetative skits which I've missed off?

Computer says No *Cough*

LOL sorry I couldn't resist :0)

Some of the skits are a tad repetitive, but you can't help but love the characters.

reply

That's why the 1st series seemed more original than the rest.

LOU AND ANDY: weren't bad until Andy started talking too much in later series.

BUBBLES: the 'champagne' and 'dangerous' was milked.

SHOP: this one I came to hate the most.

COMPUTER SAYS NO: she was ok the 1st few times, but then it just became robotic.

LINDA: the first ('big fat lesbian') and last ('Fraggle Rock') bits would have worked alone.

SEBASTIAN: I actually liked Sebastian! Ok he was OTT but I liked that he never had a catchphrase (maybe apart from "bitch").

I realised this after the first episode after the pilot.

Yes it's a show that makes use of repetition to get it's laughs. People are creatures of habit and really love catchphrases and repetition. It's pretty much teletubbies for adults.

I'm not laughing but those two guys are laughing all the way to the bank. I've never seen two people that talentless do so well in comedy.

reply

For someone who doesn't seem to like the show, you certainly have gone into a lot of detail.

reply

I didn't say I don't like it. I like it, it's just that the gags have become so samey that I'm starting to go off it. It's hard to keep enjoying a joke when you already know the punchline before the joke has even been told!

reply

I remember seeing an episode of this show by accident (I didn't know anything about it at the time) and thought it was hilarious.

So I tuned in again the following week, and was so disappointed that 90% of the jokes were just repeats of the previous episode. I continued to watch a few more episodes to see if it would improve.

It didn't.

same goes for me. on first viewing it seemed great, but then i'd seen another episode and found it awful. i've seen one from series 2, too, and thought i may have to give it a try. "maybe i wasn't judging them right", i thought. but i was. and i was shocked at how they just kept repeating the same jokes. seems they're just not daring enough. when series 3 was out i couldn't be bothered. i remember seeing an interview before they proceeded to series 2 and they were asked what series 2 would look like and they just said it themselves: they'd take the characters that people liked the most and keep on doing them. it's really cynical and dishonest just to give people what they want. and to be funny with a camp voice in the 21st century, there's got to be more then just ,well, a camp voice.
