Rewatched this after 8-9 years

When this movie came out, it was immediately my new favorite comedy. Granted I was only about 16-17 years old, but I thought it was pure gold.
Then I decided to rewatch it last weekend, and I honestly couldn't get half way through it. It just seemed to stupid, poorly written, and the overacting was kind of unbearable.
I know tastes change as your age, and certain kinds of comedy get stale after a while.. but I can't believe how unbelievably bad this movie is after a decade. I mean I can still watch Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison without feeling like someone is removing half of my brain... and they aren't exactly 'masterpieces'.. but this movie just does not cut it.
The sequel leaves me with a pit in my stomach, because I know I'll watch it... no matter how hard i try not too

Just rewatched it yesterday, didn't like it at all ,didn't find it funny at all.
If fact I found it to be plain stupid. I find it odd considering my initial rating on IMDB was 7 stars...
And yes I'm going to see sequel too (-:

I've only watched this back when it came out. I was definitely in the target demo...I remember expecting it to be great, since I liked the actors and the premise seemed perfect for comedy. Yet, I was extremely let down. I know a lot of people quote it and think it's funny...but I don't feel like it actually earned it. I think people just see it, recognize and like the people/comedians in it, and basically just tell themselves it's funny.

Now that the sequel is coming out...I decided I should watch the original again soon. But I was hoping for the opposite of your experiemce. I was hoping to enjoy it more after all these years. We'll see...what it has going for it now, is that I'm going into it with low expections...rather than when it originally came out and my expectations were high.

...I got around to re-watching it tonight. It was difficult to get through, for me anyway...o'well. Still gonna see the new one to see how it compares.

its just obvious this movie was made for teens. I remember in high school everyone loved this movie, always quoting it and whatnot.

i hated it. i wanted to like it but i just couldnt get through it. just wasnt my type of comedy even though i knew it was aimed at me.

I also just re-watched it after a 4 year haitus. It was fantastically hilarious.

WE ARE THE BORG. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

I find it equally funny as I did in 2004.

Are You Watching Closely? You're an idiot

I'm the complete opposite. I watched it when it was first released on DVD and I thought it was funny, but not over the top funny in any way. I didn't get all of the praise for it (I would have been about 34 at the time). I just watched it again a few months ago for the first time since and I could not stop laughing. It's 100x more funny than I initially thought it was.

I loved this movie when it came out and i watched it probably 100 times. tonight I watched it for the first time in about 4 years. I still like it a lot. I say it holds up about 80% as good as when it first came out. Maybe the jokes aren't as funny because I've heard them 100 times before but that's to be expected.

I rewatched it last night with all of your moms and it held up fine. Great film.

Yeah. I have to keep in mind that when it came out, I was a teenager and most of my friends raving about it were teenagers. Nostalgia is a thing. Now that I'm older, my tastes have matured.

It's a pretty standard plot. Will Ferrell does a good job. It's decent overall.
