That's very disturbing. I love David O. Russell's films, but I have to say they'll be harder to watch now.
shareShe started it.
shareIf she started it, he certainly beat her at her own game.
shareUnless anyone here was there, they would do best to not say things that might make them look like the idiots.
In other words, saying stuff like "she asked for it" or " I heard she was a bitch" is infantile.
Be smarter than the internet, people. You weren't there. Won't ever be.

I hear she was a bitch the entire movie. He should have clocked her in the nose.
shareYeah.
I mean it's a very hard thing to do and there is a lot of pressure constantly even on short films, but you don't act that way. I wouldn't want him on any set I was working on... some actors are harder to work with than others, that's just a given, but the director is supposed to keep the ship pointed in the right direction, not throw tantrums. Kudos to the production team for getting this made in SPITE of Russell.
Amateurs built The Ark, professionals built The Titanic.
Dustin Hoffman was on Howard Stern today and they asked him about this. He said if they had YouTube for as long as he's been making movies there would be videos online for every movie he's made.
George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.
That's interesting.
I wonder if HE is the culprit! :) I mean if every movie he's worked on has had it... at some point ya have to ask: "Is it me?"

Or maybe as he said in the interview, making movies is a lot of pressure and you have many different people with many different ideas on how to do it. I remember an interview in which an actor (can't remember who) said that whenever he did a movie where there were no problems it ended up sucking. When there's a lot of creative debate then it's ends up working.
George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.
Well yeah, a LOT of creative debate and collaboration... none of which I'd say would be part of Russell's screaming at Tomlin and calling her a B and C. That isn't exactly fostering a creatively collaborative environment.
I mean there has to be a lot of conversation and discussion between producers, crew, director, actors, etc... but his conduct was seriously unprofessional.

I say good for him.
The director runs the show; and sure really good directors will collaborate with their actors, but she started the whole thing and was very unprofessional: "you want me to change this, change that... its just a constant barrage.....": and all he did was sling it right back in her face.
She deserved it, I hear she has a reputation for being difficult on nearly every movie she's ever done. He had an obligation to show her who was the boss. Film is a directors medium, Lily. If you want to be in charge, go back to live theatre.

Wow, that was something. But really, how hard is it to read lines off a page? She makes it sound like she's trying to do brain surgery.
So the guy makes terrible movies, plus he's a cantankerous D-bag ? Oh, i'm in !
shareIt was well publicised that throughout filming, Lily Tomlin was throwing fits, being abusive and just generally being a complete b*tch.
There are several videos which leaked during filming which are now very difficult to find, or gone altogether. Some filmed on phone by crew members.
Some Cast and crew have since talked about it saying that it was HER who was in the wrong.
Filming kept being interrupted when she would throw fits and scream at the director, and finally he snapped and did what he should have done earlier... put her back in her place.
If you have seen any of the videos of her tantrums, you can see that in the end, the got what she more than deserved.
Anyways, For those of you who havent seen it, heres the most famous of the videos of Tomlin before Russell snapped back...
