Why was this filmed in Australia?

Can anyone shed any light as to why this American movie was filmed in a small country town in Victoria, Australia?

reply

It was probably a lot cheaper to do so. Tax incentives etc etc. The Matrix movies shot a lot of footage in Australia as well. Lots of movies set in New York have been shot in Toronto and other places. It's the make believe business and costs a lot of money.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, many American-funded films get shot here for reasons of economics. I'm just wondering why this particular town was chosen.

reply

Probably because it had the right look. That would be my guess, anyway. Incidentally, I didn't even know it was filmed Down Under until I saw this thread.

Interesting.

As to the reasons; yeah, probably cost more than anything else.

Yes, I guess economics in the first place to bring it to Oz, and then it would have been a case of finding a town with the right look. Thanks for your response.

Its cheaper to film everything outside of California or US. Most filming seems to be done in Canada. A lot of countries offer great incentives to film there.

They took a big risk by filming in Australia. What if a kangaroo came out of nowhere and hopped across the scene disrupting everything? They would have to reshoot
