I saw this when it originally aired...

but as that was several years ago, I figured I would give it another shot.

Nope. Still sucks.

The original, however, is a CLASSIC!

I'm in the minority here, but I liked this one slightly better than the 1979 series. The main problem I have with both of them is that neither of them is really all that close to the book, although this one was a little better in that regard.

I saw it when it originally aired as well. I was 24 at the time, and I remember seeing a billboard for it Fort Worth, TX (where I was living at the time) and getting all excited. I was a huge Stephen King fan, I still read the books back then and owned the original Salem's Lot mini-series on DVD. I made it a point to be home and watch it. I really enjoyed it myself. It wasn't perfect, but it's a made-for-TV adaptation of a Stephen King novel, I wasn't expecting cinematic perfection.

As you did, I enjoyed both versions as well; this one slightly more than the one made in 1979.

As I said above, my main problem with both of them is that neither followed the book particularly well, even though this one was slightly closer.

It continually amazes me that scriptwriters re-do the stories as presented in the source novels as much as they do. Granted, not everything in a novel translates well to the screen, but I do wish that scriptwriters would not butcher novels like they do.

I'm gonna watch the "re-make" again shortly, and I'll let you know if my opinion changes. The film just bored me back in 2004, as another said on here.
