....and I'm already pissed off! Why can't screenwriters follow the damn book?? The casting, too is off. Rob Lowe as Ben is fine. Samantha Mathis as Susan? Wrong, wrong, wrong. Also miscast are Andre Braugher, Donald Sutherland, Rutger Hauer, Bree Desborough and James Cromwell, just to name a few. I wish I could write a screenplay of 'Salem's Lot' and cast it myself. Who knows.....maybe I will.

This one was a bit closer to the book than the 1979 film was, although there were still major deviations from the book with this one.
As for writing your own script, and making your own film, all it takes is the copyright-owner's (Stephen King and/or the publisher) permission and money. I wish you luck.

Gary, I appreciate your wishing me good luck, lol. I know I'd need King's permission on the screenplay, and yes, I'd need money, which I DON'T have! With some luck and advice from 2 friends who are published writers, maybe I'll complete 1 or more of my 4 unfinished novels and THEN I'll take on a ''Salem's Lot' screenplay. Peace, y'all.

Writing a book, while it sounds simple and the process actually is fairly simple, is still not an easy undertaking. It takes grit, not only writing it, but going through and proofing it, making corrections, closing plot holes, arranging for the copyright, and myriad other tasks that have to be done. I know. I have a book on kindle, the rough draft of another is done and is being proofed and corrected, and I am working on yet a third.
Believe me, I've been there. My wishes for good luck were and are heartfelt, as I know how hard a writer works and often for very little financial reward.
It helps to be retired and have a good steady income. It gives me the time to write and not worry about too much about how I make my living.
There are at least two other writers on the boards for various adaptations of King novels, and perhaps they might like to make themselves known to you.
My book, by the way, is called The Pale Horse, and I use my real name here and on kindle.

Congratulations, Gary, on 'The Pale Horse,' and thank you for your encouragement! Yes, I know much of what is involved in the writing of a novel. I was working on my 'stories' for years but had to set everything aside at one point, to care for my fiancé, who was ill. He passed away 16 months ago. I'm not ready to proceed with any of my unfinished work, but I do plan to resume once I'm settled into an apartment in November....I turned to poetry a while back, and it seems as though some of my poetry may be published first--if at all! Best of luck to you in continuing your writing career, Gary. Thanks again for your input!
Please accept my condolences about your fiance. And congratulations on the upcoming publication!! I have had short articles published in various state political and trade association newsletters, so I suppose that I am published as well. At least on a small scale.
