If I hadn't read the book, I would have been so confused that I would have shut it off after the first 30 minutes. It is one of the worst adaptions of a book-to-film I have ever seen. The original was no emmy winner either, but at least it tried to be scary. I just don't understand why a good book has so much trouble being turned into a movie. The best book to screen movie I've seen is The Exorcist. The book was soooooo scary and the movie did it justice.

I agree.Im rewatching it now. Its worse than i remember. Im waiting for the Glick floating at the window scene.That was terrifying in the 79. I wonder what this will look like?

I thought it was excellent. The narration was great, Lowe and Cromwell really stole the show, but others did great as well. There were very few weak points in this version, although it could have been scarier.

While I prefer the original 1979 version, this was a pretty good version. I have read a lots of these This was so bad threads over the years. This version was well made, with a good cast and production values. The reviewers may not like the end product. However, that does not make it poor quality.
