LISTENING to it right now (Series retropective)

So, for the past few days I have been watching the entire Hellraiser series from start to finish, because I have never done so. Before now, I only saw 1, 2, 3 & 6. I knew the series slowly started to go downhill but right now, I just can't believe it. Of course, 1 is an absolute classic masterpiece. 2 comes as close to the greatness of Hellraiser out of all the sequels, though I don't care for Pinhead's backstory. 3 is enjoyable too, but the whole climax is very, very stupid, as are the looks of all the Cenobites besides Pinhead. Bloodline seemed kind of pointless to me, but still an enjoyable movie. Inferno, I really did enjoy. And 6 is probably one of my favorite sequels due to it's psychological horror, and the return of Kirsty Cotton. But then 7 and 8 is where I really couldn't get any more enjoyment out of my marathon. It was very obvious that Deader was not intended to be a Hellraiser movie, and they just tacked on Pinhead. And the continuation of Lemarchand's "bloodline" is really the only enjoyment I got out of the film. And now I come to the end, Hellword. Because Deader bored me, I felt Hellword would do the same. And it has. After about 25 minutes, I stopped watching it, and now am just listening to it and flipping back to it because I still would like to complete the series. It's a damn shame, because although I have bashed 2 in the past, the series was at its height during 1 & 2 and it is too bad the series could not recapture the magic fully throught 6 more attempts. Oh, well. They are still enjoyable, and I still really enjoy 1,2,5&6.

Agree with you for the most part. I personally thought Deader was okay, but it's REALLY depressing that my Hellraiser marathons always have to end with this piece of crap. Sounds like part 9 won't be much better. I have all 8 films on DVD, but the next time I go through them all, I might go in order of the story's timeline... so I can finish with Bloodline and end on a better note.
