Did anybody at some point think Detective Seo Tae-Yoon was the killer?

At one point I thought it was Detective Seo Tae-Yoon, the one from Seoul. Because they asked why would he come from Seoul to the boondocks and also because he visited the radio station looking for the postcard, so I thought he was looking for it because he sent it and wanted to destroy the evidence he had left behind. Then, a little later in the movie I realized it wasn't him. But wouldn't it have been great if he was the killer? sort of like a twist ending?

No it wouldn't. It was a miracle that Memories of Murder didn't have a cliche twist ending. That's why it's the best thriller ever made. Doing something like that would ruin it. But making a movie about a serial killer that never gets caught? Now you must have some pretty big balls to do that.

What am I getting at? Simple, Joon-ho Bong has big testicles... Wait, what?!....

well zodiac is another movie that does it, but it didnt suceed in being critically acclaimed though.

Suisse author Durrenmatt wrote a similar story decades before that so he wins

While watching, I thought that maybe one of the detectives was the murderer, but then I wrote it off because Kwang-Ho probably would've freaked out or something. That and also, it would be pretty cliche. I'm also glad the murders weren't solved. It makes this film even better since in the real world a killer isn't always caught no matter how much time in put into it. Great movie :)

They were all fighting in one scene when a murder takes place. But yes I know what you mean :)

This is why I liked the movie. While I didn't particularly care for the characters significantly the film was executed in such a way where it was suspenseful and just unpredictable. I thought it was a variety of characters so yes I did think it was him until the song started playing while they were fighting.

I did...but a murder did happen while they were fighting. Although he was the one that determined the time line, he could have been throwing everyone off with a fake time of murder..........
