Victim That Got Away

Love this film.

Question: any thoughts on the one victim that actually managed to get away and gets questioned midway through the film? I'm mainly interested in the fact that it is never mentioned HOW she managed to escape or why she wasn't murdered by the serial killer.

I also suspect that the survivor was his first victim in that area. Maybe at that point, he just wanted to bind and rape. After that, he "graduated" to murder as well.
