Eyad, The Immigration Officer and the Gun

What does everyone think happened when Axel flew into (Templehof) airport in Berlin? He presents his passport to the Immigration Officer who does a real double take, looks almost frightened then stamps it. Is there something to suggest that he is on official business?

And is that how me managed to just walking into Germany with a pistol?

Getting the gun on would be no problem at all - Eyal is Mossad.

Getting the gun though customs when the plane lands might be another problem altogether. Which is why I thought maybe the immigration official was in on the plot.

I've read that Mossad has very good relations with German intelligence -- I think a couple of years ago the Germans negotiated the return of some Lebanese men imprisoned in Israel in exchange for the bodies of Israeli soldiers killed in Lebanon during the 1980s. So Menachem can talk to his contacts in German intelligence to make sure that Eyal enters the country without problems.

Watching the scene, I thought that Eyal gave the officer a dirty look because encountering a German in uniform awoke feelings of loathing and discomfort. Remember he said that he would never ever go to Germany; he feels that the Germans as a people are still guilty.

I had wondered how he got the gun in to Germany also but then figured he would have had the clearance. I had also thought maybe the immigration officer noticed the Israeli passport but many years ago when we were leaving Frankfurt Airport we saw an El Al plane and that was in the mid 70's so I would not think a Israeli in Germany would be such a rare thing.

So I have wondered about that reaction also.
