Is Ashley Judd miscast?
Kevin Kline can do no wrong as far as I am concerned but Ms. Judd seemed wrong for the part. Also Sheryl Crow sounded terrible.

shareIf they just would have a Linda that was older than her husband would have been fine (by me). I liked AJ's take on Linda, she just needed to look older from the get.

Ashley Judd was 10/ 10 for me and my wife. Her chemistry with Kevin Kline was felt by both of us.

In real life, Linda was eight years older than Cole Porter. Perhaps the director should have used some make-up . . . . .
shareAshley Judd was 36 playing age 34 to 70. Kevin Kline was 57 playing age 26 to 73. There's going to be some straining of credibility when a film cover 35 years. Personally, I buy Ashley Judd's old makeup over Kevin Kline passing off as a 26 year old, and I don't think casting a women in her 60 would have solved the "problem" of the ages in the film. I liked both actors in their respective roles and just suspend disbelief when it comes to how old everyone is supposed to be.

"Yes you do; You've just used a double negative."
I agree Ashley was perfect for the role. As another poster stated, it's not easy to cast actors when their ages span so much time, but for what they were given, I think the acting was great.
shareYes and Sheryl Crow always sounds terrible.
shareI think she was. The real Linda was older than Cole and no beauty, so I think they really should have cast someone who wasn't beautiful, but who could project a clever and fun personality. (Someone like Annette Benning or Jamie Lee Curtis?) Frankly, Judd's greatest strength in the film was looking absolutely stunning in period fashions, but then, I think the film got the whole relationship between the two of them wrong. They tried to make it look like Cole and Linda had romantic/sexual chemistry, when I would assume that they were more like the best of friends, and to further that end they cast an actress who was too young, too beautiful, and too sexy.
But the miscasting isn't the film's biggest problem, not by a long shot. It's biggest problem is that it's pretty flat overall. I blame the writers and directors primarily, and Klein as well. I love him, but he didn't exactly light up the screen here.
