which is the worst remake - poseidon or this?

I'm trying to figure out why they remake good movies into utter pieces of crud.
Are all Hollywood writers brains so utterly bong resin encrusted that they are actually incapable of anything resembling a original thought?

Both movies are the same in that they take strong characters and replace them with 2-dimensional cardboard cutouts that are forgotten within minutes of leaving the theater

Honestly, I'm trying to remember a remake that was a better picture than the original

Can anyone help?

I don't know about other 'good' remakes, but to answer your question. Walking Tall was much better
than Poseidon. And Poseidon had an all-star cast, I could have cared less about their characters though.

The Rock's version was what it was, a great popcorn flick.

The problem is that I felt the exact same way about the characters in the remade Walking Tall.
Jason Voorhees could have walked in and diced the entire cast to ribbons and
I wouldn't have lost any sleep at all. Actually The Rock vrs Jason would have been a more original/intriging plot.

I wonder if anyone (who has seen both movies) actually prefer the remake?
It just seems to have none of the heart/soul of the original.
I remember the original clear as a bell, the remake I was almost forgetting as I was watching.

i can't compare it to the original because i havent' seen it, and if it was on, i'd watch it. this is on tv now and it's a good "Hey it's a rainy sunday and i'm gonna watch tv movie." I saw it when it came out and I thought it was alright too. I also saw the posiedon adventure remake, which was boring and who could care less about the bland characters? at least the rock is likable in his role and it's fun to watch him fight for the people of his home town. and the bad guy is a great dick, i remember seeing him in ravenous, and he fits his role as a preppy kid who gets a casino and remains a dick pretty well. anyway, poseidon was horrible, and the original poseidon adventure is a classic. the characters in that were good and you cared for them, i don't know if it was the more "genuine" acting of the time, or just that the remake sucked.
