When they first arrive on the island Alex is freaking out about being in San Diego and competing with Shamu but San Diego is in Cali. and Shamu lives in Florida, I think he was closer to him when he lived in NY

It's not an error. There is actually a Shamu at every Sea World.

shareSo, the original Sea World park is in San Diego. The very first Orca was named Shamu and now all the whales in all the parks use the "stage name" Shamu (even though they all have their own names!)
