I'm watching this on ABC right now...why didn't they film in Lake Placid? Does anyone know why? I played in Lake Placid on 3 different occassions when I was younger and that town would have loved to film the games there....
Hollywood. An industry who majorly supports Democrat politicians who often rail against corporate America for outsourcing jobs is one of the biggest outsources of them all.
You know, I asked that exact same question to my boss a few years ago. Well, first of all, I live in Lake Placid. I have my whole life. I got a job at the Olympic arena back in 2004 just basically doing odd jobs around the place. It was very convenient, right across the street from my school, and I worked only 3 or 4 hours a day. Anyway, when I asked my boss why Miracle wasn't filmed in town, he told me that, plain and simple, they were just too busy. The 1980 Olympic Rink (now known as the Herb Brooks Arena), isn't just a retired rink lying in ruins, it is in constant use (Figure skating competetions, ice hockey tournaments, Harlem Globtrotters, concerts, carnivals, circuses, etc.). I guess they just couldn't find the time to bring in the film crew. It's a shame really... the rink used in the film looks absolutely nothing like the Herb Brooks Arena.
maybe it was also for the reason they didnt shoot apollo 13 in Houston's Mission Control Center. maybe it could not get the shots it wanted. not all places are set up to shoot a movie. also being a small town i bet it would have been hard to fill the stadium. plus the $$$ is alot cheap to shoot in vancouver. its a win win win to shoot in vancouver over NY. i bet the rink is a bit beat up sense 1980.
plattsburgh is jsut a few towns over im sure enough people would have shown up to be extras for the film i was an extra in a film that was shot almost an hour away from where i live
it really should have been filmed in lake placid.. i am from lake george (1 and a half hours away) and i went to the olympics back in 1980.. not the game however... my point it... this is the greatest upset of ALL TIME.. hands down.. lake placid is a special place and to be historically accurate, it really needed to be filmed there... i love this movie regardless
17 - 21 year olds playing hockey to gain college scholarships is hardly "little league".
but for everyone else, seriously, it's much cheaper to film in Canada. it's not like this is the first film to be shot here for that reason and it won't be the last.
