Question...
Who was the blonde lady that was crying? I'm totally lost. Who was she crying over?
shareWho was the blonde lady that was crying? I'm totally lost. Who was she crying over?
shareIf you mean the lady that Johnny had met before, crying on the lawn, then it was because I assume her husband or son were off at war and she didn't know if they'd survived or perhaps she'd learned that he didn't?
That's how I interpreted that very brief segment.
She was lovely moments in the film (especially when he's smiling at her from the balcony), but I'm curious too...
shareShe is meant to be a kind of stand-in for all of the British aristocracy--she is enjoying her day in the sun (literally) when she first greets Johnnie and then later that summer her beautiful, drowsy world is abruptly ended when the war begins. The main theme of the movie is how a beautiful era came to an end with World War I--so many thrones had been toppled by the end of the war, so many people dead.
