Tom Hollander

Wasn't he absolutely brilliant in this?

Actually, the acting was superb in general - Miranda Richardson, Bill Nighy, Gina McKee, Michael Gambon, Frank Finlay and Ron Cook (as Asquith and Lloyd George) and all the children. Everyone at their absolute best.

But Hollander as George V just took my breath away. From that early scene when he comes down the stairs and shouts at the children for playing with the toy soldiers, right the way through. He took an unsympathetic character and made us sympathise with him - without removing any of the harshness. First class acting and the most memorable performance of a very memorable lot.

I couldn’t agree more; I thought he was superb as George V. The cast in general was good, particularly Miranda Richardson’s portrayal of Queen Mary.

I think the entire cast did really well. I definitely liked Gina Mckee though...fantastic performance!

Wow, I didn't even realize it was him.

Yes, he is. My favorite scene is when Prince John performed a musical number on the trumpet and Hollander's King George V with his facial expressions transforming from one of dutiful parent doing his obligation to his youngest child to one of quiet surprise and pride for his son's musical performance considering his mental problem, and at the same time, while listening, recalling the last precious moments he had with his Russian relatives who have all died tragically.

And yes, several of the other actors in this tv show also gave absorbing performances.

I found this show a very good companion piece for The King's Speech movie.
Truly delighted I came across this show just now, and enjoyed it very much.
